Any recommendations within 4 hours of DFW?

I see the Bird Dogs sponsors have a ranch listed but I can't find any reviews of their hunts.

Not looking for anything extravagant - 1 or 2 nights. 2-3 hunts. Comfortable bed and a place to watch some CFB during the day between hunts.

Look up Greg Pavur, Pavur Outdoors. Located about 2.5 hrs west of Dallas. Great guy, even though he is a tech grad!

These folks put us on the best wingshooting I've ever seen last year.

Hunted with them this year and it was not a good experience for the money.

Terrible duck setups. Too many people on the hunts. Guides were training their dogs on paid customer hunts. They cancelled two of the hunts due to no birds and had to be pressured for a partial refund. The dove hunting was good, but not sure I'd spend my money with them again.

Breckenridge, so relative close to DFW

Dove hunting is his main thing. He has lodging options covered parking and lots of sunflowers

Hate to hear that about your experience. We have hunted with them for years and have had nothing but good experiences.

at first I thought the OP was asking about a Low Fence (LF) dove hunt. I was thinking man what has the world come to if people are doing dove hunts in a cage now.

went with them 2 years ago and it sucked.

100 people in a single field and they just sort of said "go" maybe they'd give you a ride out to a spot.

I did hear they cut back the # of guns considerably but also doubled the price per gun/day.

They also do no evening hunts, which I don't like. I've always had way more success evening hunting around a water tank than in the morning.

I should add since the thread is about dove; the two dove hunts were great. Had a lot of fun. Lots of guys around the edges of the fields but still plenty of birds flying and room to get way. I could have easily limited out 10x over on one hunt if I was a better wing shooter.

I wouldn't do duck or crane with them again. We spent nearly an entire hunt with the guide cussing out his dog, yelling at her, and getting out from cover to run after her and corral her back. That left a really bad taste in my mouth. I don't think you should train your dog on a customer's dime. We lost quite a few opportunities to shoot due to flaring and also lost a few downed birds because the dog wouldn't listen or retrieve.

We did not dove hunt. We were doing something a little different in the summer a few years ago. John was a good host. Just saying it seemed like he had a good setup for dove hunts, but you never know about the birds. Plenty of spent shells. You can see his operation on his site. I have no affiliation with him, but if I was looking for a weekend dove hunting within a reasonable driving distance from DFW it's worth a phone call.

Talked to Alan last night. Sounds like a pretty good setup.

How's the experience overall?

Surprised to hear they don't do Saturday AM hunts. Worried about people double limiting (good problem to have?).

I guess some people are hungover and just want to chill on Saturday AM then hit the fields around 430 or 5.

How were the accommodations? good enough bed, hot water, and then some tvs for CFB? do they care if you're drinking some beers during the day on Saturday before the hunt?

I'll say, floating in the pool for awhile on Saturday doesn't sound terrible before hitting up the fields.

Do they take you out to the fields or is it like a "go here, hunt the edges, come back when you're done"?

The lodge bunks are double wide trailers. Water was hot. Beds were OK the main lodge is nice. Plenty of couches and big tvs. Plenty of food during the meals.

For the dove hunts, they took us to the fields and said do what you want. Then they sat off on the edges and watched. No issues playing music and drinking a few beers while shooting. That part was great

We hunted dove Friday and Saturday afternoons. Friday felt rushed trying to get everyone into town at then to the field. The Saturday field we hit was much better. Tons of birds for several hours.

They didn't set up any mojos or do any type of "guiding" for the dove hunts.
