I am looking at a Honda CRF300L. Seems like this would be a good bike to just take Saturday morning rides with. Don't plan to really go off road (except dirt roads) or run on the highway. I had a dirt bike when I was a kid and I like the looks of the CRF. Any opinions on other bikes would be greatly appreciated.

One of my business partners and his son open trail/road ride on GasGas machines and they are very nice bikes. Before them the son competed in motocross and was sponsored by KTM and still has a few he still rides, but after competing chose GG. I've considered getting one but have enough expensive hobbies for now.

Went through this exercise a few years ago, listened to some experienced folks on here and ended up with a DRZ.

Would look at the Suzuki DRZ400 / DRZ-4s (new), Kawasaki KLX 300 which are the companions of the Honda CRF300L.

After that you are in the 650 category with the Suzuki DR650, Honda XR650l, and Kawasaki KLR650.

The advantage of the Honda CRF300l is that it lightweight and fuel injected. The CRF300l Rally has the longest fuel range of all the bikes with a 3.4 gallon stock tank.

The DRZ, DR650, and XR650 are carbureted with minimal electronics and as the design hasn't been updated in 20+ years, so parts and accessories are cheaper than the new bikes and all known issues have been sorted out.

It should be fine, just be aware at some speeds or engine RPM single cylinder bikes can be quite vibey. I had a DRZ400SM that would make my hands go numb if I spent much time above 60.

All good recs. I'd also add the Triumph 400 Scrambler or even the 900.

The Honda cb500 is supposed to be a good bike, also. Twin cylinder which should make for a smoother ride.

I've got a 2022 CRF300L Rally with around 2k miles I'm planning on selling if you want to look at a used model. Great bike that has done everything I've asked of it and a lot of fun on backroads, just upgraded to a bigger dual sport.

You say you arent going off road or on the highway, but what if you really enjoy it and want to expand your riding experience?

My advice, get more than what you think you will want.

I'm a Harley guy - got 3. Ive been toying with trading 2 in for a dual sport bike. Would be nice to go off road or hit some trails like in Big Bend.

I just know me. If I buy optics, I but good optics. If I buy gym equipment, it is going to be commercial grade. If I was going to buy a bike, it is going to be nice and not limit me.
