We have lived in North Texas for 2 years now. Literally since the month we moved in, I have had people somewhat frequently knocking on my door or pulling into my drive asking to buy my camper. It is stored towards the back of my property, down by a barn. When we first moved in it was more visible, but now it is tucked between a barn and shed down a hill, and you would really have to look for it from the culdesac, or pull way down the driveway, and still it's not super visible.
The door knockers have always been Hispanics driving newer trucks. At first, it was the same guy would come by every 2 months and ask if it was for sale. Today, another guy rolled up in a brand new Silverado, drove straight down my long driveway (not rolling in the culdesac looking at all the neighbors, he knew exactly what house he was coming to). He hopped out wearing a white shirt with an unbuttoned polo and a big gold chain. I answered the door, and he said someone told him that there was a camper for sale at this house. He must have immediately read my demeanor, as he started back peddling and saying maybe he had the wrong street. I told him it was not for sale, and he politely left.
They have always been polite, never pushy. But come by regularly, which is what I find odd.
Is there a scam I am unaware of? Like Gypsy roofers or something? Or are they trying to find old cheap campers for some nefarious reason I'm unaware of. Or is there just such a large market for campers here, that guys cruise neighborhoods hoping to find a deal randomly. Seems like cold knocking on people's doors would be a rough way to make a living, but maybe I just don't know. It's really only this 1 guy, and then now another two that I suspect are connected to the first.
Our camper does not look nice on the outside. It's 20 years old, and looks it. The inside is totally remodeled, but you wouldn't know that from the street. It's not worth a lot. So; I'm just wondering what is going on? Any OB help is appreciated.
