How long do you want to ignore this user?
We have a small group that needs to do a backpacking trip overnight next weekend, but our first choice fell through. With it being June, I plan to take a rechargeable fan. I was hoping someone could recommend a state park (or other camping area) that would have:
- Decent trails for hiking, preferably shaded
- Campsites that might be less hot / humid than others. I guess a place with wind could help.

Any suggestions?

Definitely this. Campsites in the park have great shade and the hiking trails are solid. They run through forested areas so that will help with the exposure.

Wichita Wildlife Refuge by Lawton, OK just north of Fort Sill. You get to hear the calvary groups test firing the main battle tank cannons.

Maybe Daingerfield State Park. Broken Bow is better, but Daingerfield is much closer

Thanks for the suggestions, all. I checked the forecast in your spots but didn't see a big difference, so we decided to stick with Lake Tyler - closer and has shaded hiking. Here's hoping a cool shower and ryobi fan can cool me down at night.

Was going to suggest this. Way less people than Beavers Bend.

I was tempted but didn't see any shade trees for hiking. LMK if I'm off

Shaded camping spots but the hiking trails are pretty open. Good scenery though and a good bit of wildlife including whitetail, bison and elk

We were at Beavers Bend a few days in late April and we had the campground to ourselves . Probably changes when school is over tho.

Interesting looking place albeit about 7 hrs longer drive than OP was asking for. Have you been there and if so what can you tell us about your experience? I am retired and I have a travel trailer and wil travel so
Always interested in potential new adventures.

It's been several years, stayed at one of the USFS campgrounds surrounding it.

Not terribly dry in Catron county, so no fire restrictions as of now.
Scattered to isolated T-Storms around the area, so still cooling of at night to the low-mid 40's. Upper 70's during the day.

For New Mexico, it's a pretty good sized lake .

Very scenic drive up NM 32 to get to it.

How was the fishing and do you need a kayak to fish it?

I didn't fish, so can't speak to that.
Boats with oars or electric trolling motors only allowed, so a kayak would be fine.
