Howdy Ags! First time poster! For those in the East Texas area, I have 15 acres of sunflowers planted for dove hunts. If interested, let me know. Always have lots of birds. Close to Tyler. Fields are looking great with recent rains. Will post pictures later.

You can't necessarily plant sunflowers solely for hunting purposes. It must be a "normal agricultural operation".

I'm no lawyer nor did I stay at a Holiday inn Express last night. But, the language of your post leads me to believe it's not legal.

My understanding is you can plant it, but you can't manipulate it unless its for ag reasons.

Honest question: can you shred a field that has native sunflowers/dove weed and hunt over that? I don't even have a ranch but was curious.

This is 100% not accurate. We have been hunting peredovik sunflower fields that we grew for years. Been checked many times by Mr Green Jeans. Even had a federale show up one time.

Yes for doves.

Under the wildlife code of Texas you are allowed to plant a sunflower field, or any grain plant and legally hunt doves over it. You are also allowed to " manipulate" that field. Which means you can bush hog strips through it or any of it after it's headed out.
What you can't do is distribute additional seeds within that field as that is considered baiting.
You also can't just arbitrarily spread seeds on a field before dove season like with a broadcast spreader without actually disking, drilling or plowing a field for normal agricultural operations.

Guys! Been doing it for years. Perfectly legal. Had the GW come out many times. All good. I will be having day hunts. Will post more pictures throughout the season as September approaches.

Gunny is, as usual, 100% correct.

Recklaw--looks like a great field. Wish I was in Nac, I'd come over and hunt it. Make sure you shred it right!

Beautiful field. Wish I was within 6 hours of you. That is going to be a dove Mecca!
I can't take advantage of it but lots of good Ags on here can…so we appreciate giving us a shot at it sir!

Everybody wants to make fun of East Texas, until they need a place to hunt. Y'all just stay west of the Trinity and let us handle this.

How do you keep the hogs and deer out and from tearing that up? We've had little success growing a nice plot like that here in Madison county.

Had no trouble with deer or hogs. And we are covered up with hogs. Blackfork creek runs right through our place. Hogs everywhere. Sent some of you PM who asked for more info. I would love to have an Texags hunt.

Sounds great. Pick a date. How many do you hunt at once?

What is nearest hotel stay? Or is there RV parking nearby?
