Headed to Rockport with the family including the grands. Have not been to CP in years, is it still adequate for a family dinner? Open to suggestions for dinner and lunch spots for my crew. I'm familiar with a few spots, such as Paradise Key, Crab Inn, Panjos, Boiling Pot, HuDat…

Yes, it's still excellent.

Paradise key and crab inn are better. Definitely prefer those places to have you catch cooked.

A friend of mines daughter opened up a place called Gabriella's Seafood and Tapas. Give it a try !

SR Boilhouse is great if you're into crawfish and boiled crab, etc.

Crab Inn is better than Plummers in my opinion.

Steerburger is one of the best burgers in the state IMO

Pier 77 - highly recommend. Good food. Huge portions. Seafood, pasta, American, etc. Great place to take kids.
Paradise Key - good seafood and American.
Panjos - good pizza.
Los Comales - best Mexican food imo.
Benchwarmers (HuDat) - Asian and American. One of my favs.
Pops Tavern - over in Lamar. Great lunch spot.
Mickeys - in AP. Great seafoood and American.
Bellinos - good Italian.

Grandma B's - great candy / ice cream shop. Moved to a new freestanding location by sonic.

Latitude - fine dining. Great food.
Copanos - fine dining. Great food.

Bars:
- Sugar shack
- Whiskey palm

Not a huge fan of boiling pot, Charlotte Plummers, moondogs, crab inn. They've all gone downhill imo.

To answer your original question, Charlotte Plummer's has been "meh" for the last 15-20 years in my opinion. Every time I go I leave underwhelmed. It's not BAD, it's just nothing special.

It's still solid!

In no particular order I would give Crab-N, Cheryl's or Pier 77 a try before CP's. Pier 77 is cash only but is also a bring your own alcohol place as well which saves some dollars.

The only reason we continue to go to CP is nostalgia and tradition. Food has been mediocre for some time now but been eating there since I was a kid with grandma.

CP is like the Red Lobster of Rockport. Not worth the trip. It's for the elderly.

Howdy, my Rockport resident comments on food:

CP - Don't do it
Los Camales - Used to be Great, changed hands, for us, not good lately
Belinos - Meh, bring LOTS of money
Best All Around - Old Fulton Seafood, MUST try Janice's Lasanga!!

I like Cheryl's but prefer Coasters because it has room for kids to run around. A bit overpriced but good drinks and nice atmosphere.

This is the problem with nearly every restaurant in Rockport. They all change hands/chefs too often. Little consistency.

I used to LOVE Moon Dog but it was really disappointing last time we went.

I feel it's more like a Long John Silver's with a view of the bay. Wasn't very impressed this past fall with CP's when we had it.

It was excellent, back in the '70s.

Used to go there after all day fishing in a 16' walk-thru windshield tri-hull on Aransas Bay. Mud Island might as well have been as far as Spain.

You could drive to and from the Kings Inn faster than eat at some of those places on a holiday weekend.

Faster cheaper tastier.

Love this post. So true about older boats. Also puts into perspective how long it's been since CP has been worth a damn.

Not many, maybe no locals eat at CP's! Never heard a good word about it, except their Salad Bar (meh).

When I was a very small child we used to eat at Corky's in Rockport.

I thought I was the only one that remembered that place. In the good old days we ate there and at Klines

Duck Inn, Klien's, Corky's and what was that Mexican place on the right up 35 going north? All those places bring back a lotta memories. I always loved the Duck Inn, my mom's side of the family had a home about a block from the Duck Inn. When I would finally pissoff my great aunt and grandmother enough they would give me 3 dollars and tell me to go bother the ladies at the Duck Inn and not come back for a couple of hours.
