Anybody have any idea about this tool and it's purpose?

Looks like a tool used for putting a plug in a tire.

Looks too old for a tire plugger, but along those lines perhaps something to thread leather, etc.
O.G.

Yep. Could be that. My father in law did leather work and used a similar looking tool for threading leather but it was much smaller looking and had a slot for sliding the leather out. Perhaps a different type?

His looked like this.

You had posted just as I threw out my thoughts, so not questioning your post .

Agree it seems too large for smaller leather (and I am not an expert) and was only speculating based upon the apparent age of the tools (I still have wooden handled screwdrivers from my grandfather)

Did not take it that way at all. No worries. Your post is good. Could very well be a leather tool or something.
Hell there ain't no telling. It could be an old barbaric medical or dental tool of some sort.

I have some old wooden screwdrivers from my grand dad too!
Some are good, some worn out. I just can't bring myself to throwing them away. I think of his hands doing work with them and just can't. Dumb huh?

Seen tools that look like that for splicing line.

No sir. Same reason I keep some of his old stuff. Occasionally I have a random project and he happened to have a random "tool" that would work.

Some kind of threading awl? Probably for leather when needing to lace/weave larger areas or patterns. I remember my dad having one similar when I was a kid but I can't remember him telling me what it was for?

The Country Seat: Tool - Lasher Tucking Tool

Maybe something like this from the basketry/weaving world?

Edit: Asked AI and to ID based on photo and got this:

"This looks like a vintage hand tool, possibly a gimlet or an awl. The wooden handle suggests it's designed for grip and control, while the long metal shaft with a hole near the tip points to a tool used for making small holes, likely in wood or leather. If it's an awl, it's commonly used in leatherworking or woodworking, while a gimlet is typically used for boring small holes in wood."
