Join us on Monday, May 5, at 4:30 p.m. for a reception celebrating the opening of our newest exhibit, Music America: Iconic Objects From America's Music History. This event is being held in partnership with the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce as a Deluxe Ribbon Cutting, so all local Chamber members along with the entire community are invited to attend.

Music America will contain nearly 100 objects representing the best of American music, telling the story of how music has informed, interpreted, and inspired our national identity since it was founded nearly two-and-a-half centuries ago. The exhibit was curated by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music (BSACAM) at Monmouth University is West Long Beach, New Jersey, and will be on display in the Ansary Gallery of American History at the George Bush Presidential Library & Museum until January 5, 2026.

This exhibit features legendary artifacts from artists such as Johnny Cash, Sam Cooke, Chuck D, Woody Guthrie, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Holly, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen, Tupac Shakur, and more.

Specific artifacts include: a late 18th century hymnal, Bob Dylan's harmonica, Ella Fitzgerald's cabaret card, Leonard Bernstein's outfit and baton, and iconic clothing from Elvis Presley and Lady Gaga. Along with interactive audio recordings from throughout history, the numerous one-of-a-kind artifacts demonstrate the depth, breadth, and great productivity of American musicians.

The exhibit opening reception and ribbon cutting ceremony is free to attend but reservations are strongly encouraged. Please register your attendance using the link below.

Had a roomate who had old maid aunt in Houston who spoiled heck out of him. She had free tickets for Elvis and Glenn Campbell at Houston rodeo for us. Very unwisely, we chose Glenn Campbell, as he was popular and elvis hadnt got the second wave of popularity.

Did go to see Al Dean and the All Stars (Mr Cotton eyed Joe) at Bill Mraz Ballroom!

saw SRV 3 times, but wish I had seen Jimi Hendrix (in some time warp).

I was 14 when John Bonham died, so theoretically I could have seen Led Zeppelin. That's on the list.

Stupidly didn't go see The Who with friends during high school. I thought they were "too old." Never saw them.

Also wish I had seen the Talking Heads in one of the shows filmed for "Stop Making Sense"

Last entry - Warren Zevon

Led Zeppelin - missed them as I became a huge fan in '81. Did see Robert Plant but he was still in the no zeppelin tunes mode so only played his solo stuff

I wish I'd have gone to see him when I had the chance and I had a number of chances.

My "even I'm not old enough " comment was with regard to Elvis, not Waylon. I was 16 when Elvis did his last performance so I suppose I could have seen him but didn't have the time or money then and also at that age didn't really recognize how great a performer he really was .

I saw Elvis play in the Astrodome in 1974. I was 4 years old (almost 5), but I remember parts of it. I specifically remember an older lady in the row in front of us stood up and screamed so long and so loud that she passed out and crashed to the ground. That was just for the introduction…

Saw Sammy Hagar live in Vegas last night, I'll be honest, for a 77 year old dude, he looks good and plays like hes in his 40s. Dude was bouncing around the stage, incredible to see a 77 yr old do that

He told a story where he said people will ask him why he doesn't grow his hair out like old times, he said man, I can grow hair on my arms, my balls and my arm pits but his hair won't grow on his head anymore.. was kind of funny,

Same here. I was 10 when Elvis died. I didn't have any interest in him until much later in life when I saw a documentary on his gospel music and his history. His upbringing and faith was impressive and I like his gospel stuff.

Elvis, George, Willie, Buck,Tammy, Loretta, Charley, Lefty, Kitty, Roy, …..just a few that come to mind.

Never a fan of Elvis until I heard his voice in person. He was gifted. Willy's material speaks for itself, greatest song writer, selling songs for $50 to feed his family,

Some great artists back in the day.

Merle, Waylon, or Marty. Would have loved to have seen all 3. Was supposed to go see Merle when he was coming to Victoria, but he got sick and had to cancel.
