My son has a bunch of fishing rod we're trying to get rid of. One of them is a 7" Abu Garcia vengeance that's missing the tip. Is that garbage? I've seen these on eBay for almost $70 but those are intact. Not knowing much about fishing I don't know if it's salvageable now.

replacing the tip isn't hard at all. It's a question of which tip do you buy. YOu can go to academy and get the cheapy basic tip that comes with glue. or you can go online and buy more expensive supposedly better quality tips.
I've just used the academy tips and been just fine with them. On the very first rod I bought on my own from BPS catalog back in '91 I have probably put 2-3 academy tips on there over the years. Still catches fish just fine

now if you're trying to sell, I don't know but I'd put that out there and adjust your price accordingly. If no luck selling rods (which is like selling guns IMO!!!) then maybe donate to boys/girls club, youth home, etc

Not garbage, but won't get much on the resale market. Put a new tip on there and keep it for friends or kids, or make it a travel rod. The resale market for fishing rods is not good. Even if you have super high end stuff, you won't get much.

Salvageable, yes. Not gonna be much resale value in it with a repaired tip. Thats probably one you should fix and just hold on to. It'll work just fine. Normally on a used rod, not very old, and no damage you should be able to get around half of retail new price on you run of the mill stuff or at least that's what I've seen.

We're not trying to make money… was planning on giving most of this away. But it seemed to me that he might've been giving away some stuff that he shouldn't and it also seemed like some of this might've just needed to go into the garbage.. guess not. He does tend to take a lot of his friends fishing. They don't have gear and he shares. This seems like a perfect rod for that.

He's 16 and loves to fish!

Oh, my mistake. You mentioned looking at prices on ebay so I assumed you were wanting to try and sell them.

I didn't want him to give anything "special" away. And I figured pricing might have been indicative of that.
