My son loves Philly Cheese Steak. I tired to make it myself this weekend and it was good, but was wondering if the best board on TexAgs had a better recipe.

Onions and bell pepper sauted in olive oil and butter
1/8" ribeye seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder
Provolone and mozzarella cheese
Toasted Italian hoagie with light mayo

Am I missing something?

**Yes, this our fine china from HEB.**

You seem to be on the right track. Here's a couple food board threads on the subject:

Only thing i would maybe suggest is that you have way too much meat in the cast iron. You are more graying or even boiling the meat versus searing. So maybe do it in smaller batches and get some sear on it. Better yet, in the OB way, you need a EVO flat top in your new 100k outdoor kitchen. But seriously, that is the one thing I would suggest, and i've never had a cheese steak sandwich.

After I cooked it, I took it off and then put portioned sized steak back on to sear it. My son (football/weightlifting) can consume a lot of meat! Yeah, I am not TexAgs rich.

I had my first one tonight. You should try it. It is really good.

We normally get this, it in the meat section of HEB (other groceries also have it). The may have a ribeye specific version too, I just didn't see it in the website. Anyways, I normally cook it on the Blackstone. Season with spg or Lawry's season salt and a dash of Worcestershire. Grilled peppers and onions, provolone and a little dash of Louisiana hot sauce. Get it all grilled and melted down in a good hogie bun (we normally get Martins brand from HEB).

I played around with this, except I don't like peppers or onions. I used homemade queso (cheese + sodium citrate + spices) along with the marinated steak I make for tacos. It was delicious. I could have used a better bread, but it's what they had.

Next time (when I can eat bread again - on keto diet), I'd use garlic butter and toast the bread and cut into strips of meat rather than chunks.

I came up with a marinade on trial and error. Everyone who tries it thinks it's delicious.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Looks and bet tastes better than that crap we got in Philly.

No doubt. The "iconic" places on the south side of Philly are crap.

Not sure to be honest, but I will give it a try. Always assumed if i was even in Philly i would try one, but i've also done everything to make sure I never have to go to philly. They certainly sound and look good. I live in Houston so where is the best one in town?

Seriously, make your own. It will taste better.

I call mine a "Mexican" cheese steak, since I use queso and marinated meat I use for street tacos.

Cheesesteaks aren't exactly rocket surgery. No need to travel to Philly to get a good one. Above recommendations are just fine.

I was in Philly for 3 weeks and went to about 10 different places. They all had one thing in common.....bland and no color on the meat.

It's very easy to make a better cheesesteak at home. I use salt, plenty of fresh ground pepper, and garlic I've also started using red onion instead of yellow or white. The homemade beer cheese sauce in the link above brings it home. If I'm not up for that, I like a combination of provolone and white American.

I had my first one the night I made these. Bell pepper was the reason that I had never eaten one. My wife and son have eased me into green bell pepper over the last year or so. I took a leap of faith and sauteed the hell out of them. It was great.

Bell peppers aren't native to a Cheesesteak sandwich. If you're making them at home and you like them do what you like, but if you see them on a menu you probably aren't at a place that makes a good cheesesteak

Today is my oldest son's birthday. He asked for cheesesteak. So we did them but didn't have good rolls ( normally I would have hit up jimmy johns) so we used ciabatta rolls instead and it was pretty tasty.

Then a simple homemade carrot cake to top it off. After the requisite embarrassing singing to the 17 year old in front of his girlfriend. (I can get loud if it's to embarrass my kids because it's my job)

Jim's South Street was best before it burned! Have not had it since they reopened.

A close second is Ishkabibbles!

Pat's and Geno's are tourist traps.

The real secret is thin sliced Ribeye and great bread!
You can make one at home just as good as any place in Philly!

Ishkabibbles was my favorite when I lived there. Sips (unfortunate name) in Manayunk was pretty good as well. Philly is a great sandwich town.
