Title says it all. I believe we have some folks that live on the water, or really close.

I have not heard anything yet. Corpus Christi bay water temps were around 40 last night according to the local news. I'd be more worried about the Laguna. We should start hearing stuff today and tomorrow. Good news is it's going to warm up fast today.

Talking to a friend who lives on the bay in Anahuac, he is not expecting a big fish kill.
He said there have been enough cold spells, rain run off from the Trinity a few weeks ago and a recent low tide to move the fish to deeper water this year.

I'm on the water near the JFK causeway. Still holding out hope, I haven't seen any floating fish just yet. I'm hoping the gradual cooling temps allowed the fish to find some deeper water to hide out in. I'll update if I see things changing.

Capt. Jim West, down on Bolivar is monitoring it on Facebook. Water temps in upper 30's. He said water temps are getting close to fish kill levels.

Usually requires 3 things: lower tides, lengthy cold, extended north/northwest wind.

This moves out water volume and reduces depths leaving less of a buffer to temp change, exposed it to cold longer, and that is what causes big kills. I don't think that happened.

I think it was cold enough with a gradual enough drop in temps that the fish had time to move to deeper water to weather the cold vs. extremely rapid drops in the past.

Turtles are sitting ducks when shocked/stunned by colder water temps.

Let's not talk about ducks right now. Pretty sore subject.

Hit the water for a few hours this morning. I didn't see any floating fish or evidence of a fish kill. The water is really blown out so I couldn't access a lot of the flats, any fish caught shallow I'm sure is a goner but vastly different than 2021. In a good way.

Location North Padre Island.

Fished Offats Bayou yesterday in Galveston. There were a bunch of dead mullet floating in the area.

Talked to buddy that owns Sea Tow out of NPI, said seen mostly baitfish and sand trout, handful of drum. Sounds like it could have been a lot worse.

Like I said before, I think the temps were cold enough for long enough in advance that a lot of fish had the time to get to safer waters vs. the extreme and rapid temp drops of other fish kills.

Saw this on FB today: Watched barges in the intercostal this afternoon stir up stunned redfish after redfish. Most of them had been hit by their prop.

Most fish in this area will be killed by barge traffic. Every fish is in deeper water trying to survive.

I didn't know you traveled that far south Grem.

Our family cabin is between the Point of Rocks and the Badlands. Just west of Twin Palms.

It;s the one up out of the water about 12 feet that everyone uses for a landmark because you can see it from a long way.

I had hoped they would close barge traffic. Looks like that wasn't going to last long. Overall, I expected low mortality too, since we had a slower more gradual temp change over the last 3 or 4 weeks, as opposed to 75 degrees one day and 19 the next.
