Don't mean to hijack this thread, but when looking at a used UTV, how many hours/miles should you expect out of let's say a Kawasaki 1000XP? What are key things to look for when buying used?
The hours really depend on the job the owner wants it to do. A farmer probably uses it 2-5 hours/day so you're looking at 700-1600 hours a year if not more. If it's for recreation and hunting then you're looking at 50-200 hours a year. I've got a 2021 Polaris with 265 hours on it so roughly 66 hours/year.
You don't want one that has been used to death and at the same time you don't want one that has sat for 5 years without any maintenance.
If buying used I would ask to be the first person to start it that day. I don't like to look at anything that has already been warmed up and running. No telling what they had to do to get it there. I want a cold start. After that I want to check all the functions. Does it go into the gears easily, does it go into four wheel drive without issue, do the lights work etc. Then I want to run it up to temperature and make sure it doesn't overheat and that it cools properly. Once that happens I feel the oil dipstick for anything grainy like shavings etc. Check the air filter and make sure it's clean. In the end you're buying used and anything can happen but if all of that checks out you should have a better shot at buying a good machine.
If they have maintenance records then that's even better.
