Around March/April I will be in the market to buy a UTV for the ranch. Any ideas on dealers to look at? I'm gonna want something that seats at least 4 with a bed. It will be used for hunting and light ranch duty. Wanting something that is easy to get parts and serviced. I am located in Hockley. TIA for any ideas on dealers.

Buy a used one off Facebook marketplace & save yourself a ton of cash. I started by looking with a few local dealers and by the time you are out the door it's anywhere from 30-50k. Bought a Polaris crew with low hours for $7500 off of marketplace.

I second FB Marketplace. I've bought an ATV and UTV off Marketplace and also traded those two machines in for a 'newer to me' sxs which happened to be from a dealer who posted on FB Marketplace (Sovereign Off Road out of Conroe).

I'm not a dealer and not trying to "make a buck" or anything - but own several UTVs. I've had different ones over the years. When you get ready, let me know if I can help you in any way. Glad to share info and/or keep an eye out for you.

Based on what I've seen, recently, a new Polaris will have almost $2000 added to the price for freight/prep/etc.

I noticed the other day that RideNow was adding an additional $1,488 "reconditioning charge", to the price of their USED units. So…a $6500 Polaris was nearly $8000 (and that was before tax/title/etc). Just an FYI…

The top three brands will be your best bet for parts and service. Polaris, Can Am and Kawasaki. FB marketplace is a great resource. I always try to buy from an individual rather a dealer. I feel dealers are a great place for people to dump their problems. Individuals are less likely to screw you (note I said "less likely" as there ware definitely some dirtbags our there.)

Don't rule out a Honda. If you don't need 4 seats and the bed together at all times a Honda Pioneer 700-4 is a solid setup. Seats fold down and you have a full bed. Grown man fits fine in the back seats. I bought one a couple of years ago and it works great for the lease. I bought a Kolpin cargo carrier for the hitch receiver and it's been great. Carried 2 big doe on it the other day and had 4 guys riding.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but when looking at a used UTV, how many hours/miles should you expect out of let's say a Kawasaki 1000XP? What are key things to look for when buying used?

The hours really depend on the job the owner wants it to do. A farmer probably uses it 2-5 hours/day so you're looking at 700-1600 hours a year if not more. If it's for recreation and hunting then you're looking at 50-200 hours a year. I've got a 2021 Polaris with 265 hours on it so roughly 66 hours/year.

You don't want one that has been used to death and at the same time you don't want one that has sat for 5 years without any maintenance.

If buying used I would ask to be the first person to start it that day. I don't like to look at anything that has already been warmed up and running. No telling what they had to do to get it there. I want a cold start. After that I want to check all the functions. Does it go into the gears easily, does it go into four wheel drive without issue, do the lights work etc. Then I want to run it up to temperature and make sure it doesn't overheat and that it cools properly. Once that happens I feel the oil dipstick for anything grainy like shavings etc. Check the air filter and make sure it's clean. In the end you're buying used and anything can happen but if all of that checks out you should have a better shot at buying a good machine.

If they have maintenance records then that's even better.

I appreciate all the information on here. I have been keeping an eye on FB marketplace and watching prices. I know Polaris and Kawasaki were on the list. I will look into Honda as well. What about Yamaha? Any own we're out there?

Have you heard anything about the Segway Powersports UTVs? They seem to come with a ton of upgrades for the price and also safety features. They appear to be fairly new to the market.

Been wondering the same thing and how they compare to the big boys.

Also curious how many of yall have the Tracker/Arctic Cat/Textron 800cc model and how yall like it. It's a lot quieter than the Can Am I have so I was looking at them.
