It's been 2 years since my English Springer Spaniel passed. I got him when he was 2 years old and the previous owner sent him to quail school. So I only had to give him refreshers before seasons.
My 6 year old son is begging for a dog for Christmas and it didn't take much convincing for me to put down a deposit for a new pup! We will be getting a male American Brittany Spaniel at the beginning of February.

Looking for books and/or video recommendations for obedience and field/hunting training.

Although they not the spaz of a Brittany, there's several Boykin Spaniel books on Amazon that explain how to work with a hard headed, soft tempered dog.
Completely different that using a 2x4 to get the attention of Labs and English Pointers.

Pretty tough to beat Cornerstone Gun Dog Academy for basic obedience. They are more geared towards retriever training but the obedience is the same regardless of game you are trying to play with your pup

The breeder & trainer I got 2 GSPs from said that there's one piece of training equipment that's indispensable.

It's duct tape.

To put over your own mouth.

His point was that most people talk and yell at their dogs way too much and end up slowing or ruining the training.

His philosophy was to keep the training short, simple, and repetitive.

I also discovered that dogs bred for upland bird hunting frequently have a tremendous amount of instinct already. Most of the training is basic obedience and, if it's important to you, retrieval. A good Brittany shouldn't need much if any training on how to find and point birds.

A bit of training may also be necessary for holding the point, although there as many different opinions on how long a dog should do that as there are hunters. I discovered that dogs that are trained to hold a point forever aren't much good up in the Rolling Plains where the birds run. Most dogs up there will "cat crawl" after the birds if they're running.

If he is going to be a duck dog a 2nd vote for water dog.

If he is going to focus on quail Gun Dog by the same author. Stick to it and follow the process.

I used "Gun Dog" for 3 different Brittanys. It works.

You just teach them to handle and they do the rest.
