Went hunting with a buddy this weekend and we were hunting a 20 acre oats patch and a pile of hogs came out at the opposite end.....about 400 yards. He dialed the scope on his 300mag to 400 yards and decided to fire one off. To me it looked like he was right over the top and they all ran off........no squeals, stumbles, etc Fast-forward an hour later and they all come back out right before dark so he picks one out. He adjusted to what we now think is 375 yards and fired one off and after they all scatter there is a black spot still laying in the field....success!!
Here is where it gets wild. When we walked up you could see some guts hanging out the side as he was a little high and back but it had done the trick. We flipped her over to see where the entry was and right up on the neck was a baseball sized hole slightly above the shoulders......It was the SAME DAMN HOG he had shot at earlier. Had be been 1/2 lower on the first shot it would have got some spine. How tough and hungry do you have to be to get a hole blown out of your neck that you come back an hour later like nothing happened and start eating again? Also what are the odds that he picked out the same hog when there were a dozen other ones the same size as her?
I actually have the recovery on video but its would break "community guidelines" if I posted it anywhere.
