10/22 charger not ejecting

My 22 charger all of a sudden stopped ejecting fired brass. It will eject maybe 1/4 of them fine, but most of the time I'm having to manually eject.

Cleaned gun , mags, and suppressor, and tried multiple mags. It will even do it with the mag out. Not sure what's going on, the extractor on the bolt looks okay.

Any advice?

Clean the heck out of the bolt and ejector. Also, sometimes the changes to ejector are really hard to see. I'd replace the ejector for sure.
I will say, I had a 10-22 that was having the same problem and took it in for a work over. They cleaned it better than I could have and replaced some parts. It functioned better but never perfect. I ended up retiring the gun and replacing it out of frustration. I moved on to the m&p 15-22 and love it due to its reliability. I still have my chargers though.

Are they extracting out of the chamber fine? I assume so as you said the problem was ejecting, not extracting but some people get those terms wrong.

I'm not sure what the correct term is… the empty case is in the gun just like if you were to unload an unformed round. I guess it's not even clearing the chamber?

Clean the chamber, my friend

Here. Actually looks like the bolt is only going back about halfway on the FTE

Looks like failure to extract rather than eject.

Extraction is the extractor pulling the brass out of the chamber.

Ejection is tossing the extracted round clear of the action so a new round can be chambered.

"FTE" is a term that always needs clarification.

Clean the chamber

See, this is another reason I love TexAgs. Somebody here actually knows the correct terms between ejector and extractor unlike myself.

Are you using ammo that's less than 1000 fps? Mine runs standard velocity great, but it won't cycle anything less.

No this is the CCI standard velocity (1070 fps)

Technically subsonic out of this gun bc of barrel length

Standard velocity is subsonic in all barrel lengths

Make sure the chamber and barrel are really, really clean. Clean the receiver, bolt and bolt spring, make sure to decarbon the bolt face.

1) Clean the extractor channel in the bolt
2)Try some different ammo, like a 36 gr HP.
3) Use 10 rd magazines: the ejector on a 10/22 is built into the feed lips of the magazine, the long magazines wobble and that changes the angle of the feed lips and therefore the ejector. Also the long magazines are more sensitive to the oily or greasy residue on some ammo.
4) replace extractor and extractor spring and plunger

Try doing only one of these at a time. That will help diagnose what is actually the problem.

Assuming it is ammo/magazines, what would cause this to just start happening? I've shot over 1k rounds of this ammo out of bx25/15 magazines without these issues. Is it common for a gun to all of a sudden decide it doesn't like a particular ammo anymore?

The only thing that's changed is your chamber got dirty and you're having problems with extraction. Very common. Clean your chamber. Has nothing to do with the magazine.

The channels inside the BX15&25 are susceptible to dirt, carbon, oil accumulation, they have a wound bimetal spring that can get weak, and the follower can get dirty too.

The nose of the magazine fits into a hollow in the front of the receiver, these two parts could wear and allow for the magazine to droop. This may allow for changing the angle of the ejector, resulting in stovepipes.

Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation

I looked at your video again. It looks like it's short stroking. This is usually caused by a light load. You could try a lighter recoil spring.

What is weird is this is the same ammo I've always shot… the CCI standard velo (1070 fps). Never had this issue.

Took the gun apart again today and cleaned the chamber good with a brass brush. Also got a box of the CCI "clean 22". Velocity on the box is the same as the stuff I've been shooting (1070 fps).

After cleaning I loaded a bx 15 with the clean ammo and it did not have a single issue… loaded the same mag with the old stuff and 9/15 short stroked/stovepiped

Any chance I just got a bad batch of ammo? Confused as to why one will work but the other will not
