28 months!
I think majority of the problems stemmed from incompetence at the local BCS dealer I used.
Once the gun shop had their crap in order, the ATF was pretty responsive and quick with the approval.
Said dealer just kept telling me that this was normal and they had customers that were waiting even longer than me for approval.
Turns out they never submitted my form when I originally purchased the can. No less than a dozen times over the course of the next 18 months did I ask them if everything was submitted properly. Finally I asked for a re-submit and they did. Within a few days I received an email from the ATF that my application was in process. I never received this for the first 18 months after the original purchase, which leads me to believe that that gun shop never submitted my form.
About 4 weeks after the ATF received my application, it was denied because the idiots at the vendor of the original purchase never sent my fingerprints with the application, even though I had to pay 50$ for digital fingerprint scans. After the denial, the approval came 3 days later after the local shop sent my finger prints.
Long story short, just use Silencer Shop. The process is easier and local shops will not save you any time or money.
I see my timelines don't line up. The dates were a a little fuzzy because it took place over the course of 2 plus years, so I went through my emails and found the hard dates. Actual timeline was 27 months.
The facts are this. Can was purchased on 8/19/22.
No acknowledgement of submittal from ATF until 10/1/24 after repeated requests for submittal info/status from dealer. On 11/12/24 my form was denied due to fingerprints not being submitted.
On 11/13/24 I received another email that I had a form submitted for the same can I purchased in 2022.
On 11/15/24 I was approved.
