okay OB, need advice on Cabo...no, not fishing charters as I used the search function and got those covered!!

need advice on a few things. To help understand here's what I have set up so far..

day 1 - arrive, check in at place downtown, check out medano and eat at nice restaurant downtown
day 2 - fish with pisces....then we are going out to stay at a condo just outside of town the rest of the trip
day 3 - chill
day 4 - fish with Dr. Pescado....fingers crossed for rooster fish although its tough time of year for them
day 5 - chill
day 6 - fish with pisces....hopefully bring back some good eats and will buy a cooler to bring home
day 7 - chill
day 8 - leave

questions...
1) transportation....we can rent a car, uber, or hire transportation. I know if we rent we'll want to get FULL protection. The condo also has great reviews on helping set up transportation and obviously uber. My initial plan was to get transfer service to/from airport and then uber rest of time because on chill days we're VERY likely just hanging at the beach/pool at our condo. I figured it's probably cheaper or a wash and easier. Even with a couple of early morning drives into the marina. any suggestions?

2) should we just uber to/from the airport as well? It looks cheaper than transports but not sure how easy it is

3) on the days we are going to chill we MIGHT do some sort of activity. This would be either golf, scuba, or a day tour to Todos or La Paz. Yay or waste of time?
a) golf course recos?
b) scuba...worth it or not and recos?
c) tours.....wife wouldn't like the 4 wheeler tours but might be up for checking out nearby towns
d) sunset tour....we're already gonna be on the boat plenty so not sure this is worth it? our condo is right on the water and will have okay to decent sunset view

4) you get one dinner in Cabo....don't want chili's level or touristy crap....but don't want to spend $100 a plate. Where do you go?

5) anyone been to playa chileno? Looks like a good wide beach to spread out and avoid the crowds and minimize the hucksters selling chicle

6) cooler for the fish...is it as simple as going to walmart and buying a 32 or 64 qt cooler and then taping shut with my biz card on it? would hate for a screw up before hand cause problems at either airport. Plan is to freeze and hopefully it'll make it from the condo until we get home to houston.

No matter how hard you try to imagine you are somewhere else you are still in Mexico. Stay at the country club and pool while not fishing and you'll likely survive.

Uber is good there. Never used it from the airport, but used it a bunch getting around.

As for the cooler, get a big rtic backpack cooler. It is almost exactly carry on size. Use it as your carry on. Works great and is useful at home. Put the grease on the zipper!!!

One trip we did whale watching on a private boat. It was way cooler than I thought it would be. Would be expensive for two, but maybe they can pair you up with some folks. There are also sunset cruises galore. They range from super fancy to girls gone wild party. Pick accordingly. There is an art walk in san jose that is pretty cool. Several good restaurants there and it makes a cool relaxing evening.

Don't think uber can pickup from airport. But it's good to use everywhere else. Would not do rental

I've used Cabo Journey for a car service and they were great. They did airport transfers, drove us to dinners (and could get reservations the concierge couldn't) and booked us a private sunset cruise.

As MLB said, the art walk in San Jose makes for a nice evening. I think they do that on Thursdays. If you go into San Jose do beers at baja brewery and then walk to La Lupita for tacos and mezcal.

My wife loved Flora Farms. It is really out of the way but a good spot. Our flight worked out that we flew into SJD just before lunch and our driver took us straight to Flora for lunch, and then took us to the hotel to check in. It was a good way to do something on that travel day and we didn't need to make the hike back out there.

Was there last year and after catching tuna/mahi with Pieces, took our catch to "Mission de Kino" in town and they cooked it 3-4 different ways. It was excellent.

The Office is a good spot for lunch/dinner. Baja Brewing has good views.

Haven't been, but have heard Flora Farms is a must go, as mentioned, it is a bit of a drive though.

Pisces will vacuum seal and deep freeze your catch for you. If you stay somewhere like we do (Sandos Finisterra) they will deliver the day you leave, if not you can pick up your catch during the business hours. Have used them several times and recommend the "full service" boat pkg. where they do the license, food, drinks of choice, etc. The dried beef tacos are great on the water. Extra water costs the same as beer. $1.16 USD this last summer. Hard to drink beer cheaper than that for beer in Cabo, on an offshore boat off Land's End no less.

Hint: if using a hard side cooler to bring your vacuum sealed catch home, bring duct tape to seal the lid, but stuff with sturdy paper to fill in the air gaps, or you will experience some thaw before placing in your home freezer. We use thick sided soft coolers for this, and squeeze out the air as much as possible, zip, and duct tape. Customs may/may not check the cooler. We usually pack this soft cooler in our checked bags, which lessens the chance customs will open it.

As far Dr. Pescado for Rooster, Jaime is the guy here. Got his direct contact info from an ex guide from the POC area. When I used him, my son and I were walking the marina to get our license and getting hit hard before daylight with "I've got your guy, the best Captain, what do you want to catch XXXx?" Every one, when I told them I was set up with Jaime (last name omitted), stopped the sell and commented "you have a very good Captain". They weren't kidding. We only stayed on the water for 3 roosters as we had stuff to do, but caught 50, 45, 55 lb Roosters. Could have caught more. Roosters that size on medium spinning tackle was a real fight. Now, this was in July and the big Roosters were 'in". Take a lunch for Jaime as well as your guy(s) on the Panga, and throw in a DosXX for him too. Fair warning, you don't want more than 2+ Jaime if you on on his Panga, as it gets tight fast with fish on. Don't expect to take the Rooster meat home, he'll tell you up front it's not really "bueno".

Do try and get in a brunch/lunch in at the Office, wear your trunks, as you can walk in/out of the beach dining area and get in the water back and forth with food/beer etc on your table waiting for you.

Tight lines. Have fun in CABO!

"Green" is the new RED.

We stayed at Chileno Bay Resort last February. Walked over to the public beach and it's beautiful and definitely nicer than the beaches downtown.

Just went for a long weekend in October. Fished 2 full days. We ended up with about 30lbs of meat. Had it all filleted, vacuum sealed, and deep freezed for ~$60 down at the marina. Picked it up the morning we flew out. Put it in an RTIC backpack and carried on. It was still frozen solid after a flight to IAH and and a 2 hour drive home!

We used Cabo Airport Shuttle. Quick, easy, and affordable.

We went a few years ago. Don't get drunk on the flight. They make you fill out customs paperwork before you land. I did that with one eye open. Don't stop at the information booth. Everyone is a scammer. Cab driver told us fares were fixed by the govt. Flat rate to hotel on East side. We stayed at the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos. We rode a cab to see Sammy Hagar at his Birthday Bash. 20 min drive. Cab fare was the same both ways and back to the airport. Uber wasn't a big thing when we went, so I have no info on them. Only fishing I did was my lime out of my beer glass. Have fun.
