I've never purchased a firearm online, but I'm looking to order one or two from Palmetto. I've called around to a few of their FFLs on their site, and seems like $65-$75 per firearm is the going rate. Does that sound about right? Is that what I should get used to? What dictates any price fluctuation? Thanks.

Location is in/around the Lake Travis area.

You can definitely find people cheaper than that. I've paid $10 or $15 in the past. Just find a local FFL or call around. They have numbers online of people who work out of their house gunsmithing, etc. $75 is way too much in my opinion

It's been a little while since I have picked up one from an FFL but I don't think I've ever paid more than $30.

On PSAs website it should list the FFLs in your area that are already registered. Stay away from the big name places and look for someone smaller. I've never done the guys that are ship to the house (home based) but have plenty of them around me in West Houston.

$20-25 is about the average of what I've been paying. If you buy through gunbroker.com they will have a list of ffl dealers that are registered with them in your area. When you make a purchase the one you select will get a notification to send a copy of their license to the seller.

I live in Beaumont and it seemed like for awhile(5-10 years ago)$50 was the going rate for an FFL transfer. I would see people in other areas posting about $15-20 FFL transfers in other areas. It felt like all the gun shops had gotten together in my area and set the same price. In reality I think they just looked around and everyone was charging $50 so they fell in line. I assume gun stores make more money on a sale rather than a FFL transfer. So the higher the transfer fee the more likely you are to buy from them, a higher transfer fee lessens the good deal you find online. Then a guy opened a gun store in the area and charges $15 per transfer. A lot of places have now lowered transfer fees. OP, those are high transfer fees.

We charge $35. Might be going up in the future. The fee isn't really for the accepting and delivering part. It's the insurance and ATF hassle.

I'd just make sure the place you're shipping your firearm to has insurance in case they mess your firearm up or lose it or it gets stolen etc.

BlackJack moved over to the Lakeline Mall area and lists $35/$45 for LTC/No LTC. I've used them in the past when they were further south on 183.

I am in your same area OP and was disappointed about the high fees locally. I have always used Central Texas Gun Works off of Ben White (between S. 1st and Congress). Charge $35 if I recall. My wife and I took one of their classes too, so felt comfortable continuing to give them business.
