Getting winter prep done around the house and went to fill up the spare cans for generator use and got pretty frustrated with the nozzles our wonderful government mandates. Anyone bought or made a good gas can lately? I am pretty fed up with the nozzle BS you have to engage to pour. Any help with 5 gallon can setups would be greatly appreciated.

Scepter 5 gal military cans on ebay.

Donkey dick fuel spout.

... at least that's what we always called them.

I just picked up a few of the VP Racing "Utility" jugs.

Replacement nozzles at Tractor Supply work pretty well. Probably need to add the breather valve to your existing can (comes with the nozzle).

3 Nozzles, vents, and drill bit for installing vents for $12. Used these and they work great.

Amazon sells some D battery powered fuel transfer pumps that are about 18 bucks. They last a few months then crap out. They would probably last a lot longer if I actually took care of them. But they can empty a 5 gallon can in about 2-3 minutes. I keep a couple on hand for hurricane season so I don't spill gas on the generators. Made a huge difference.

Can second these! I bought a set for myself and they worked great and ended up buying a set for my dad. Just make sure if/when you drill the hole for the vent, you don't drill on the can seam. I did for one of my cans and it started to split. Not sure if it was just an old can or if the new hole caused a weak point.

I let my father in law borrow my generator in July after Beryl, and when I picked it back up he gave me one of these. I think it's the version from Harbor Freight. Honestly, can't believe I never thought of it before.

I'm sure to your point on crapping out, it may not be great long term or in a hard winter, but super convenient for now.

Picked up one of these on a whim at Murdoch's. Absolutely love it. Been using it almost a year now and just put my second set of batteries in it. So. Easy.

Third, prefer these cans to anything else.

Yeah, you see the gas coming out and you can look down the spout to see the level of gas in the tank.

Get these for your existing cans. They work, are cheap and save you the hastle with the stupid government spouts. I have them on all of my cans.

Flexible Gas Can Spout

I also have one of these and damned if it isn't handy as hell. Doesn't pump super fast, but for my generator and tractor it is nice for control (generator) and not having to lift 5 gallons of diesel up to fill the tractor:

I have many of the VP 5 gallon cans but am slowly replacing them with LC2 cans. The LC2 are similar, but have an integrated handle towards the bottom which makes them much easier to pour when they're full. Here are Amazon links to the cans and pour nozzles that I like, but the Amazon price on the gas cans is ridiculous. They're not worth $55 to me. I think the local powersports store charge $25 or $30 per can.

I bought some VP jugs on Amazon. They were on sale or clearance and in some kind of bulk packaging so I got 5 WHITE ones. I figure I can use them for gas, diesel, or water. I like them a lot. I am slowly ditching the 20 years of red plastic gas cans. Eventually they degrade and split at the seams, but until then, I buy those amazon spout replacements......But, if you are buying new VP or the TSC versions are the way to go.

This is the way. I beat the hell out of these, and they're still great.

They are good for some cans and not others. I always end up with nozzles that don't fit the can threads correctly and they leak like hell.

This 1000 times on the LC2 jugs. I had some of the other similar looking VP racing style.
Got these and they are soooooo much easier due to that other handle. Doesn't hurt your back so much and your hand won't slip off the bottom like on the similar styles…. preventing gas going everywhere!
