How long do you want to ignore this user?
Need a forestry mulcher for our mini/midsize excavator - 20K operating weight. Does anyone have any experience with any of the different brands you would recommend?

Have seen torrent brand in action and look pretty good?

Any info or advice appreciated

My only experience is about 2 days with a CAT 299LM running a 180D mulcher. All I can say is that I'm very glad I don't have to maintain that sumbeech. It really chewed through all sorts of stuff in short order though. Even took down and completely mulched a few giant cedars, as well as everything about 6" and under.

Most of the companies in east Texas use Fecon.

To put things in perspective most mulchers use a bent axis axial piston motor and those things can live a long time under the right conditions, like 30k+ hours. Fecon rates theirs for 2,000 hours and does not suggest rebuilding since the application is so hard on the hydraulics.

In our "neck of the woods" lots of guys use Fecon as well.
I rented a mulcher for my skid steer…., man they are maintenance intensive.

Exactly my thoughts. I don't have regular need for one, so renting was a no brainer for me. But after using it and talking to the owner about how much hell they go through with mulchers, I would have to need it A LO to justify the maintenance effort and cost. Unless convenience or availability outweighs other things.

Roger that.
Same with a bull dozer or track loader. I owned one for a couple of years. Wow o Wow. Now I either hire or rent.

I work at dealer for Forestry mulchers. We sell Fecon, FAE, Denis Cimaf, Loftness, Diamond, and Vail. If you want a mulcher for a excavator, and you are going to run it off of the hydraulics of the excavator, FAE hands down.
What kind of flow does your machine have? Are you going to run a power pac? Is it going to be on the machine full time, or are you going back and forth with a bucket?

Cimaf makes a good head, they are just 25% more than the others.
