Antique Weapons Appraisal?

A family member inherited some antique guns, knives, and swords. The deceased was a dealer but had very little records or paperwork of anything. Can anyone please point me in the direction of somewhere we can get items like this appraised?

There are several dozen flint lock rifles and pistols, a few blunderbusses, a cannon, some swords, and many knives. Knowing him, the newest stuff is probably civil war era, and some of it looks much older.

For now, we're just trying to figure out what all of it is. Some of his previous clients have reached out to let us know they're interested in buying some of it, but we wanted to get items appraised before we sell them.

Somewhere around college station or houston would be best, but willing to drive a few hours if needed.

Thanks!

I might be able to help with some of it. The cannons and the swords if they are older. The market for old cannons is super thin. Not much gets sold and not a lot of people know about them. But prices can get up there. Post them up here or shoot me an email. cwscott at tamu d0t edu.

When I saw this it brought one man to mind - I don't know if he'd be interested but he is the owner and collector of probably the most extensive stack of weapons out there

From pistols to knives to sabers and cannons

Remember the guy that suggested swords for a groomsman gift? Maybe he'll be interested in part of the collection.

Here's a similar thread. I touched on some of the concerns for selling.

Old swords and such - Page 2 | TexAgs

His previous clients will likely be some of the best buyers. But you do need to know what you're selling. Unfortunately, I dont know of any experts that will give honest valuations. The bigger and more boisterous and more well known, the more they seem to be scam artist. Knowledge is hard to come by and these people take advantage of both buyers and sellers. Proceed with caution.

Depending on what you have, you can sometimes get a good idea of values by signing up for a free account at liveauctioneers.com and using google to search their sold items. Just keep in mind, prices at auction, may be higher than what you should expect to get. You just cant reach as many buyers.
