Kid stepped through decking in our chicken coop in the only spot I didn't redo the flooring. Floor was solid a couple months ago and there was no sign of them during construction. They moved fast and now I have a 6x6 hole in the floor that I need to fix, but I want to make sure they do not persist.

I've been spraying everything with Bifen as I go, but want to make sure they don't come back as I close it back up.

Help me texags, youre my only hope.

Chlordane dust. Thats what I would use if I had any left over in a sealed can in my garage cabinet.

Just sprinkle it liberally underneath the floor?

I could be wrong.. but I thought they traveled in the dirt… and in order to truly eliminate them you not only have to kill the ones that have surfaced… but you have to trench around the structure and mix termite killer pesticide with the dirt that replaces i?

A dash here and a dash there. Just like salting a steak.

We saw a few in a different spot in the chicken run so you very well may be correct and we have a bigger problem. I trenched the whole run area to put barriers under the fencing and nothing was seen so this is definitely new. The dirt under the floor is exposed so I can soak the crap out of it.

Looks like I'm good to go on that front. I reckon I can apply liberally to everything including the ground outside and keep the chickens out of the run for a few days.

Any recommendations on applications I may be overlooking?

Edit nvm, reading more on label so this question is irrelevant.

Trench 6" deep around the foundation and mix that stuff in a bucket and go at it. Run to HD or Ace to get a trenching shovel.

That stuff's so effective I'm surprised the EPA hasn't banned it.

You might want a professional to come out and inspect your house as well. Even if you have brick between the ground and your walls, they can built mud covered tunnels along the brick. In crawl spaces they send down hanging tubes to make pathways between the ground and your structure. Termites are like fire ants - you don't really get rid of them - you make your place less hospitable than your neighbors so they go somewhere else.

Y'all just spray any exposed wood as well to stop the spread? I ordered more firponil because I don't have enough for trench treatment, but have enough to treat under the floor and then put in a new floor while it is being shipped.

Yea someone's going to look at the house this week. Coop is 100+ feet away from the house across lots of paved ground and several structures, but better safe than sorry.

Fipronil is what is in some topical flea medicines for cats/dogs. But that's not chickens.

I use BoraCare on every antique building I have. Some already had termites but I havnt had any since. Taurus if you want perimeter.

May as well indulge you with pictures.

In some countries people will take their chicken runs and place them over termite mounds, then bust open the mound.

Free protein.

I guess you could treat the mound after your birds have had dinner.

Oh I was definitely putting the chickens on to them, they were loving it. I haven't found the mound though, and those suckers disappear into wood so fast.

No termites around the house

Fibronil kills all bugs for a very long time.

Had a home once where we found some evidence of termites during a bathroom remodel. The guy I called used chlordane liquid that he delivered underground via a long perforated probe. He injected the solution around the outside of the foundation and where the plumbing came up through the foundation. He said that he used so much that he almost floated the house. That house was treated in the late 80s. All the termites within a 100 yards around that house were likely terminated. Never had much trouble with fire ants after that treatment either. Good old days. My dad put me onto chlordane back in the 60s.
