Have a .410 upper on a standard milspec AR lower. Changed out the buffer tube for the one which came with the upper. Never shot it.

Sold to a guy - he said it won't shoot, so I'll have to refund him.

In the interim - why might it not shoot? I tried looking up some info, but couldn't find much.

I had no idea anyone made .410 uppers and I have NO reasonable justification for one but now I need it

I had no idea these existed. Are we talking about a .410 shotgun shell upper? Smooth bore w a fixed choke? What length shells does the mag and chamber take?

Here's a picture of the bottom of the .410 upper.

It's on a standard lower with the buffer weight which came with the upper and a standard spring that was already with the lower.

All I know is that he said it wouldn't shoot. I'm going to go test tomorrow and see if it will shoot.

I think the issue may be the brand of shotgun shells used. When I put Winchester in there, they would not fit correctly. After putting 1 shell in and then another, I tried to pull one out, and there was an alignment issue (the shell underneath wasn't
Moved up by the spring).

I put another brand in, and they fit in fine, and the spring moved them one below it up to the top as it should - so I'm betting that the mag I have is picky on ammo and the ammo the guy was using was mis-aligned, thereby now allowing the gun to shoot.

I tried to shoot the 410 tonight. I put the magazine in, and pulled the charging handle back. The shotgun shell would end up wedged in between the bolt carrier group and the hole towards the front of the barrel. I pulled the magazine release, and pulled back the charging handle, which caused the shotgun shell to become attached to the bolt carrier group by a piece of metal that hooked the back of the shotgun shell.

I don't know what the issue is with this upper. I'm just gonna get rid of the upper and cut my losses. I will send it to anyone for $75 shipped. Again, it doesn't fire, and I have no idea what the issue is.

Has it ever fired before when you had it? I assume you did and how long ago was that?

OP, did you see this post? I didn't see a reply. My guess is that you have a shell length restriction. All 410 shells are not created equally. It's highly likely that it only takes one shell length. I'd think that was stamped on the upper or barrel somewhere (or definitely in the manual).

If the BCG won't lock, perhaps the shells you're using are too long.

This…I'm betting 2.5" is the way to go.

I tried several different shell types. All were less than 2.5. None would shoot. I'll post pictures of what the bcg is doing. Effectively, it is attaching the shell to the end of the bcg by a piece of metal that acts as a holding pin.
