How long do you want to ignore this user?
Archery Mule deer, 13 pts and drew was really wanting to go to Elephant MTN but its all good. A family story is my Granddad had the #2 mule deer from there, thus the reason I put in. I grew up fishing for 2 weeks at my granddad's lake house every year. I was super close to him but he passed away in his mid 60's and I was 19.

I really made this separate post for INFO: If anyone has insight ill take it!

I've been on the property a few times, chasing blue quail several years ago (they won). Beautiful, wide open country and IIRC the drive along the river is like 38 miles long or something. If driving around in there I would highly recommend having 2 vehicles and survival supplies in case you break down. Most days we would not see a single vehicle or person out there.

I would think sticking a muley would be a huge challenge, but know little about that. Water is scarce with guzzler systems set up and scattered around for the wildlife. (a big project/$$$ there in the past was for re-establishing Bighorn sheep, still going on?)

There was a decent thread on here in the past that had more info, if you can figure out the search function which I have never been able to. Sorry for no info related to your hunt, but felt the need to post.
I don't think you know me.

Google is your friend. Sit on a water hole from first light to dark or glass, spot and stalk. There may be a few threads about bowhunting Black Gap on the green screen.

Looks like as a consolation prize you can arrow a javelina, which is nice.

Good luck to you! I drew the archery tag, 15 pts, for 11/19! Have heard it's a tough hunt but doable!

I've muley hunted that place 3 times as a yoot (with a rifle)...back in the late 90s. It's still the most memorable of any of the draw hunts that I've been on. Absolutely love the place, and it's my favorite of any of the draw hunt places that I've even been to. Killed a 24" wide 8 point the first trip, a smaller buck the 2nd time, and missed a giant that was probably pushing 30" wide my last year when I was 16. The sight of first spotting that buck trotting away from me and seeing his rack, then him stopping and turning around to look at me, and seeing that rack swing around...will forever be etched into my mind. I'm 40 now, but still remember it like it was yesterday.

You will see some amazing country that seems to go on forever. The night skies are unlike anything you will ever see. As mentioned above, sitting over water may be key with archery. But also definitely get up high and glass, because...the views. Don't be afraid to move around and cover lots of area, because the compartments they assign you to will indeed have lots of area. It's a massive place. It is also the desert, so everything sticks you. And the rocks make a lot of noise as you move if you move too fast. That contributed to how I whiffed on the giant muley my last trip there.

Get to highest vantage point before light, take good glass, put them to bed, play wind, spot and stalk.

Only other way to sit at water all day, but that's not as fun. Awesome experience, will be tough but rewarding.

Not much to add, but I've always heard is to wear snake boots or chaps of some kind out there - the lechuguella will eat you alive.
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really
