News stories circulating today in Dallas about a couple of attempted kidnappings yesterday. One of the incidents occurred around the corner from our house. My wife got the full neighborhood group text blast with video right after it occurred. One thing struck me then and again now that it's all over the news... there was a white 4Runner with license plate THS9209 clearly pictured, yet the police are still "asking for help" identifying who was driving.

Do the plates actually belong to the vehicle shown in the video? Was the vehicle stolen? So many questions...

Stolen plates, stolen vehicle, multiple people with access to the vehicle, could be a lot of reasons for asking for help in IDing the driver.

We live in the same neighborhood. My wife is on that group text as well. Scary sh*t

Probably should have gone ahead and asked in my original post. Any PIs or other folks with access who can run the plate and at least give a general idea of location where it's registered?

From online public databases, I can see that the plate is linked to a 2010 4Runner which checks out with the body style shown in the photo, so seems less likely that the plates were stolen and swapped to another vehicle.

Plates come back to a white 2010 4-Runner expires 7/31/2025 to an address on Valcourt Drive in Richardson. I'm sure the police have followed up on that address already

My worst fear on earth.

Before you go through too much more trouble, may try to chat with some neighbors that know the kids involved. What I've heard from our neighbor group is that the kids may have been messing around throwing things at the car and he stopped to confront them about it. Apparently the other parents weren't surprised by this knowing the kids involved.

Not sure if what he did was an appropriate way to handle things (I really haven't read much of the interaction between him and the kids) and I'm not trying to defend any of his actions, but there may be another side to the story.

The longer video we saw shows the 4Runner and a black truck stopped side by side in the street a few doors down from the house, then the 4Runner backs up and a guy gets out and charges up in the front yard toward the kids, who scatter and then run into the house.

Question…. If that's the case, that the kids were messing with cars driving by, then why wouldn't the guy stop and say something to the mother that came outside, instead of immediately jumping back in the vehicle and taking off?

There are two different events and to be clear I am only referencing the guy in the white SUV and the group of kids.

If I had to guess, something hit his car and he stops and sees a big group of kids, probably over does it on the way he approaches them about what they are doing, sees a parent come out and realizes he has now painted himself in a pretty bad light and decides that no harm has really been done to him or his car and it is best to just now drive away. Then once the parents talks with the kids they are scared and also embarrassed and afraid to tell the truth, so it gets spun in a way that of course they would have never done anything to cause this and that guy must be trying to kidnap kids.

I stay away from Nextdoor but I decided to see what the latest was over there this morning and someone posted this:

"Just got off the monthly crime watch call that I have with Dallas Police, obviously this incident was top on the call agenda. More details to be released today - Dallas Police approached the owner of the SUV. It appears the kids were throwing water balloons at passing vehicles and the driver of the white SUV stopped to confront the kids throwing objects at his vehicle."

Rumor is the driver said this:

That was AWESOME!

A few years ago a child was abducted in our neighborhood as the child was walking w/ mom. The child was further in front of the mom. The guy was not from our area and just randomly started driving our streets until he found a child. The entire area was up most of the night praying that they would find her alive. They eventually found them in a hotel and she was alive. Absolutely terrible.
