How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would like someone to come to my place this winter and perform a prescribed burn on some property, about 5 acres maybe. I live off of hwy 30 between cs and Bryan, about 4 miles south of central church on the east side
Any recommendations?

No offense, but you will have an extremely difficult time finding any licensed person to only do 5 acres. Or you will pay through the nose on a per/acre basis for it.

Reach out to Lone Star Forestry in Huntsville they may do it.

You might try your local volunteer fire department. We used to do them for a donation.

Check with your local NRCS office in Bryan. Sounds like a good opportunity for a training burn if you don't mind a dozen or more people out there.

They aren't allowed to do that anymore

that small a place why not do it yourself? Notify everyone in their brother that you're doing it, then
find a day in Feb with winds no more than 5mph (you need a little wind)- grab some buddies with sprayers filled with water, start a line with diesel, control the back burn and ensure you have a break between you an your neighbors
check for hot spots over the next few days...

I'm not taking on that liability.

For others…
I realize not much property, but in a semi residential area, and I don't want to practice where I might damage someone else's property.

I don't know that many folks willing to be out here working. I'm old, as are most of my friends

NCRS said they do training a couple of years ago, but 2 years ago they didn't because of a covid thing, then last year wasn't a good year to do it. I'm good with having folks out training.

I thought about vfd, but didn't know about anyone else.

I'll reach out to the company named above.

I always start the back burn first.

Lone Star Forestry is good people and Aggies. I do think their minimum is 30 acres or so though.

I appreciate your predicament and you wanting to do the right thing for you and your neighbors. An alternative may be hiring a company to come out and do underbrushing and mulching to clean out your understory.

5 acres ? Can you not mow or schred it? Seems too easy

None at all? I was waiting for your answer. I knew they were cut off from burning contract related burns, but I guess the liability issues got the best of them. I've set some spectacular fires over the years.

Hard to say without seeing the place, but few prescriptions call for "no more than 5 mph". You typically want 5 at a minimum.

I shred the rest of the place, but this back area, I want burned to get rid of all the organic matter.
I've an 85 hp tractor with a 10' shredder, but want something else once.

My mom and I went to an event put on by the Texas Forest Service for Forestry landowners in Trinity a few weeks ago. I learned a ton. If you ever get the opportunity, attend one of these.

With that said, there are Prescribed Burn Associations across Texas that you can join and not only learn how to do burns, but also volunteer/host your land for burns (yes, even 5 acres). And it's free. (At least the new association for East Texas is [that's not even on this webpage yet]).

You could also check with Raven Environmental in Huntsville. I'm not sure what their minimum size is.

I known for some it is one of the options to help keep a wildlife exemption in place

I'm in no way an expert. Just relaying my experience and that's what we would target. Anything higher than that made us a little uncomfortable if there was a lot of fuel. And tree damage wasn't a huge consideration since it was mostly grasses/underbrush, etc..

What about finding someone with a skidsteer and a mulcher for a couple hours work?

It sounds like this is more complicated than just burning off some flat/grassy/pastureland.

You guys understand it's about the ground clutter as much as it's about the undergrowth, right?
