I have a weekend home close to the bay near Kemah and the yard had about 1 foot or more of salt water on it due to the hurricane. My question is should I do anything to the yard after it had salt water on it for roughly 24 hours? I'm assuming it was mostly salty bay water. I'm considering running the sprinklers but I also assume it's fully saturated with the water sitting there. Just wondering what the salty water will do long term ?

The salt is there. If the grass dies the grass will die, you may have to re-sod.

A lot of common grass species found or used on the coast should be somewhat tolerant of this. Watering should dilute the salt somewhat.

St Augustine grass is a coastal grass, for example. Bermuda grass…it's in the name.

The grass is St Augustine … so should be ok? I'm
Literally 75 yards from the bay.. maybe the water under the soil has salt already ? I'm gonna run the sprinklers as soon as the yard gets dry again .. it's still pretty wet

Thanks for the info ..

I've lived in Clear Lake Shores for 20+ years. Your grass will be fine, don't worry.

Now we're talking …

BTW… the Old Turtle Club / Barge 295 was leaning over 1/4 full of water it looked like, not sure if she's gonna see another go at it… but that thing must have 9 lives like a cat

With all of the rain this spring the water shouldn't have a super high salinity. I bet it will be fine also.

The Medina soil activator has been used for years in farming and in past hurricanes for salt water remediation. Here are a couple of articles.
