I'm interested in a long-term solution to making boarding up easier in the future. Luckily we didn't have to this time for Beryl, but I know there will come a time when it's necessary.

Anybody have similar situtation and found a permanent solution that allows the boards to be put in place quickly?

I've looked through these offerings in the past but would like input from anybody that has knowledge for what would be best for my situation. TIA.

For Harvey, I used Plywood with 4" screws through the stucco trim to get to frame boards on our windows that are trimmed similar to this:

On the front of our house, we have trim similar to the below and I did not board them up - luckily Harvey didn't impact our area too much.

I patched the holes with stucco batch but getting uniformity was pretty much impossible.

5StarShield: Howdy, just an aside, but with StarShield as a handle, do you need anymore protection?

However, Seriously, and this may not help, our house came with SS Threaded inserts into the stucco. The covers we have a polycarbonate, very light weight, almost totally transparent. Cut to size of window with holes for the inserts to fit through. Use washer and nut to secure, use portable drill and go on in no time. We find that the transparent and light weight features make them easy to store and put up.

Put up for Beryl, probably will not take off until storm season over. That is advantage over plywood, not up and down all the time. This season looks a little sketchy!

Oh, forgot, Rockport, TX.

Thank you, Mark. That sounds like what i'm looking for. I need to find best place to source the threaded inserts and poly.

Was in Rockport on Saturday helping the in-laws prepare for Beryl. We didn't end up putting up boards but secured plants and outdoor furniture.

I had something similar to this at my old house. you have to drill them into the wood or stucco and leave them. Then if you use plywood, or metal, or plexiglass like yall are talking about you have to have holes that match where these studs go in. then the wing nut goes over that.

Our new house has stucco trim around windows and the pre existing boards had these clips. I imagine it might rip up the stucco a little bit though.

Gulf Coast Hurricane Shutters in Corpus. I had the same attachment system as Mark above, but my coverings were Kevlar tarps….did fine for Harvey, but a pain to put on and took up space in garage. I called Gulf Coast . They came out and suggested hurricane screens on the windows and the roll down shutter for front door. They came out, measured windows and door, and in a couple of months came and installed them.

I'm in Aransas Pass . There are pluses and minuses to them, but they add security to your home as well, I oil the latches once a year to make sure they open easily in case of fire. They do darken your home some.

I put accordion storm shutters up at the Port A beach house, took me less than 30 minutes to button up about 35 windows …. They are expensive but cut your time down to nothing. Depends what your interested in doing, accordions are quick and easy to button up from the inside of each window and leave.. the polycarbonate ones are light weight but you still have to access all windows from outside, if they are on a 2nd floor they can take a long time if you have a bunch of windows … polycarbonate are prob on 30 % of the cost though

Don't be afraid to mix and match, according on top windows and polycarbonate on bottom windows. The screens sound interesting, I didn't know about them. The absolute best way is to put impact Windows in your house at construction if you're buidling it. $300 extra a window is cheap in the long run and you don't have to do anything.. just drink a beer and watch the seagulls fly around..

Brush Country Ag: Need to do what you did and call Gulf Coast Hurricane in Corpus Christi. Need a front door cover and that sounds perfect, do not want to mess up door or frame.

As stated, since they let all light in and are reasonably see through the polycarbonates are staying up through this storm season. Storm this early is BAD NEWS!

...or QMI Stainless Screens. I'm in the process of having a set of them installed on my windows for hail protection:

In 18 years, I've boarded up twice - Ike and Harvey. I use the "Plylock" brackets for my pre-cut boards, but I have wood frames. I'm 18 years older, and those screens look interesting.

The fellow at Gulf Coast was really nice guy. The screens are stainless steel and can't be cut easily, thus the security issue.

I had the front door cover hooked up in my attic with a regular plug and outlet. If no power, I can get my generator cord through the garage door into the attic and raise the roll down screen with the remote….or, there is a special tool that fits into a cordless drill that you can use to lift that screen.

B-1 83: THANK YOU! I have been looking for some way to project my front door without having to drill into it or the frame. Have seen people using something that looked like a clamp but did not know what they were. These Plylock Clamps look to be just the thing that I need, ordered some from Amazon about 2 minutes ago.
