Woke up this morning, and there are hundreds of these things crawling around our house. Northwest Florida. Will they do damage? How long will they stay around? Thanks!

Put it on a white piece of paper and then use Google lense to take a picture to ID it. You'll be surprised how accurate it is.

Go to Google there's a camera icon in the search box.

Use an un-gloved hand to pick it up. Resulting pain will aid in identification.

Based on Inaturalist and google, looks like a Cabbage Palm Moth (litoprosopus futilis) to me.

We ended up thinking they are Anisota senatoria, the orangestriped oakworm

Many less the next day and fewer every day after that. Pretty much gone now. Maybe there will be an outbreak of moths in the next week or so…

Look like an army worm to me. They'll eat the leaves off anything in its path, especially grass. Short life cycle, but usually occur in biblical proportions....good luck!
