We have a gentleman who is going to let us fish his stock pond that has bass and bluegill.

Last time we did this, Alex threw a super duper and got one on his first cast...lots of skinny bass and no pressure.

This pond gets more pressure and I'm hoping not to tie him up waiting for Alex to catch one. Alex is a bluegill machine, so we could make quick work that way.

But I'd like to give him a shot at a bass first.

It will be 10:00 a.m. on a hot summer day. Not expecting the pond to have any shade.

What would you throw?

Sounds like too many bass in the pond. You need to take several out for there to be growth. Blue gill is a good source of food for the bass, but it appears to have too many bass for the blue gill population. What type of cover is in the pond for the fish population?

Can he fish a Texas rig?

A little swim shad or a whopper plopper.

My go to on a pond is always start with a top water. You can see the lure as it travels an and there is absolutely nothing more fun then watching a bass crash it. Timing is not optimal because I like tops early and late. But 15-20 minutes to start the fish day is worth it.

Otherwise I've had good luck one worms bounced on the bottom. Earth color seems to be a favorite.

Pop R. Cast it and gentle pop it back.

If grass in the pond, throw a senko or wacky worm. A wacky worm is better as far as easier hook up.

He works a Texas Rig pretty well, but the hookset gives him a little trouble.

I have caught eleventy billion stock pond bass. Plastic pink worms work better than anything else.

My grandkids catch bass & perch all day on Walmart earthworms

Lots of good suggestions. Just for the fun of it, I would use a Hula Popper or Tiny Torpedo.

And I think you are supposed to remove 25 pounds of bass per year per surface acre in ponds.

Our stocktanks have a lot of moss. So we sometimes like using the filthy frogs. Marginal success but doesn't grab the moss / grass.

Old school still works.

The weedless frogs are always a success at stock ponds.

Stock pond visit fell through - though we did fish a different private pond today…fly fished it….pretty neat place, I'll post about later.

This post is to say thanks to the H&H spinner bait recommendations. Helped us get it done in a weedy, windy, hot lake in the southwest corner of Oklahoma.

This is the way. Allows for beer drinking as well. Don't have to continuously crank.
