I played golf at Bridges up in Gunter last weekend and those Texas Tarantulas were all over the course. Am I wrong in thinking them being this far north is new?

I see them frequently when I visit family in Montgomery but never around DFW.

I remember finding tarantulas around Abernathy and Amarillo when we'd visit family in the 70's & 80's. I saw a few while hunting Pronghorn outside Stratford last fall too

They range as far north as Kansas, Missouri and Eastern Colorado. I used to find plenty of them 50 years ago north of Greenville, TX and see them frequently here in the Ozarks.

I'm not seeing a pic of a tarantula. I see something that looks worsen.

Like I tell my kids.

You wouldn't want them coming into our home and squishing you, so we don't go outside into their home and squish them.

I tell my kids that I love them, and want them to live...so use the toe of their boot to make sure the spider is all the way dead.

That's a redback spider not a black widow. They are closely related though. I killed hundreds of black widows in my time in Bakersfield.

Meh, if I see a spider, I just put it outside. If it is already outside, I leave it alone.

Wasps, hornets, etc - on the other hand - I kill with great impunity. Had the propane torch out the other day, and a wasp seemed like it was a little too close, so I roasted his ass on mid-air. It was quite glorious.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Redback Spiders are the Black Widow's Aussie cousin and don't occur in this hemisphere.

Some populations of the Latrodectus species in North America have red marks on their back ( even more display it as juveniles) some local populations have yellow hourglass marks, white stripes and other color variations from the typical shiny black with a red hourglass on the belly.

Is it venomous?
