OB - help me not blow $ on overkill for a dump trailer

For farm use only. I'll be buying a Kubota SVL-3 skidsteer soon and have my eyes set on a Horizon 16' dump trailer.

Primary use would be hauling lots of mulch, wood, junk, and the skidsteer sometimes (not all at once nor combined).

The problem is, I also plan on getting a brush cutter for the skidsteer (maybe one with a side arm, but at least the typical front mount first). These attachments add size and weight and I don't think would fit in a 16' unless I added a (heavy) deck over the gooseneck.

Am I getting myself into a mess trying to do all of this with one oversized dump trailer? Or give in and get a smaller dump trailer and a separate flat bed?

I snapped a photo of this dude going down HWY 6 which seemed to have the right setup.

Supposedly I could haul nearly 16 yards of dry mulch in the 16' X 4' sidewalls.

FYI - the skidsteer is a little over 9k w/o the cutter. Trailer can haul about 14k. But adding all the stuff to beef it up (like the deck, and heavy duty axles, etc) is making an otherwise simple dump trailer into a beast.

I'll be pulling with a SRW RAM3500 6.7 W/Aisin trans.

Any tips are appreciated. It's going to get costly.

What GVWR on truck and trailer?
Double check unless you have CDL.
I think you'll be cutting it close.

I've had trailers that were too short but never one that's too long. I'm not familiar with dump trailers but want one also. For what you are describing, maybe go 20' with the plan of. Balancing the weight over the axles and having extra room in the front and back.
We replaced a similar 20' pj flat deck with a 24' same and the 24' has been much better hauling the same tractor and loads. Real nice having the extra length and space. Easier to load and unload.
ETA get the widest you legally can also. That load in the photo looks claustrophobic to me. I'm too old to climb out of that trailer in the front.

CDL won't be needed for Farm tags (won't go near the 48k for farm limits). So it's more of a practical thing to consider.

I personally have a 35 foot Big Tex flat bed rated for 24 k lbs… I haul my skid steer and 2-3 attachments .. it takes up the entire trailer with those attachments depending on which ones I have on the trailer

But as you know the flat bed won't haul some of the stuff you want to haul….

Just a decision you have to weigh out for yourself … those heavy duty dump trailers are nice no doubt

Get a heavy duty floor installed and at least 16K axle rating, remember got to include weight of trailer , not just the load.

Also since you're hauling a skid steer, have a professional welder install heavy duty D Rings for tie downs. Don't trust the factory welds.

Also if it's a custom job, consider a unique color instead of black. That way, if it's stolen , your trailer definitely stands out and may get spotted quicker. That's a tip from a buddy who is a deeper thinker than I am, his dump trailer is Kubota orange ( mine dump trailer is black).

I have a good buddy that quit his day job and runs a skid steer now. He has a similar setup and it is multi-functional. I am not sure what size his dump trailer is, but it's a beast and we've had it loaded to the brim with towing a shredder behind it too.

Gooseneck hitch, you'll need a decent sized skid steer to run a brush head. The skid steer may be the heaviest thing you tow with it.

SRW F350 on a trailer that weighs about 7000lbs with a Cat 272C with metal tracks and a brush head weighed 30000lbs. Fortunately I never got caught moving it around and have a bigger truck that it goes on these days.
