How long do you want to ignore this user?
Within the past month and a half I noticed this 1 year old heifer had developed these spots around her mouth and nose. Any suggestion re: what they might be and if treatable? danke

Looks like HIV/AIDS

Most likely scenario is papilloma virus (warts), I'll allow a large animal doc to chime in with recommendations.

Looks like warts. If it is warts you can pull or twist them off. This will stimulate an immune system response. Also you can put the pulled off warts in their feed also helps build antibodies. I also get some anti fungal spray and spray the area where the pulled off wart was.

Looks to be as DVM97 stated - papilloma virus. Usually self limiting unless immunocompromised (think BVD PI). This is highly contagious and will spread with fomites (halters, etc.).

Anecdotally, getting the immune system to 'recognize' their presence tends to speed up recovery. Lots of ways Docs have done that in the past.

Does this count as 'telemedicine'?

So if you crush cattle warts and feed the wart to the animal does it help with immunization? We have had difficulty getting the vaccine.

Will let the vets give more detailed responses, but here is some information on that

If I load her up and take her to the clinic and it's diagnosed as papilloma. Is it treatable?…ie., worthwhile taking her in? Appreciate your help.

My kid's show steer had warts once. Iirc, we got a single shot from the local vet and gave it to him. They all disappeared.

Bought some replacement heifers many years ago and when I received them several had a good outbreak of warts around the head going down neck and on brisket. My vet said rub them raw or cut them off applying iodine and somehow this would trigger an immune response. I cut off the big ugly ones and skipped the little ones and followed with a shot of Wart vaccine made by Colorado Serum Company. Several months later all were clean and never saw another outbreak. Not really a big deal but kinda unsightly for a little while.

Just like BurnetAggie99 said looks like warts. Just cut off with snips, crush and feed to them. We will fill a bolus full and give it back to show steers all the time. Easier to make sure they digest than feeding. If they come back just repeat again.
