Used to we would go to the ASCS (FSA) office and get aerial maps, but I'm not sure if they still do that.

Any suggestions?

FSA has switched to satellite imagery and digitized all their maps and boundaries. If your property is enrolled in an FSA program I am sure they can accommodate. If not and you just want a high-res satellite image of a particular location I am sure there are several commercial vendors. With FSA, keep in mind that imagery is updated on a cycle every few years of so and it rotates by region. So depending on where you are it might not be as fresh as say, google imagery.

The county appraisal district might be able to give you something as well

What do you want on the map? Aerial underlay, CAD property boundaries, owner labels, North arrow, scale, lat/long grid, and a title block?

That can be whipped up in a few minutes with open source GIS and emailed to you in a PDF that you can have printed.

Reach out to the Map Department at Evans Library

Google Maps (Aerial View), or are you looking for something that's printed and be hung on a wall?

I'd use this as an excuse to buy a new drone.

I've taken Google maps - marked roads, property boundaries, blinds, feeders, etc and then saved the image at the highest possible resolution. I then send to a printer and get them printed on something like 20 x 30 with a hard backing. Pretty inexpensive and easy to do. Also print out legal sized maps that people can have in trucks.

How big? I print maps at FedEx Office that are 2' x 3'. I think they do larger (one dimension limited to 3') like a banner too.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Where are you located? I can make pretty much whatever size you want but wouldn't recommend shipping such map. I can add anything to the map such as topo lines, POI, roads etc. I use ArcMap to build everything and use the most current public imagery. Most areas have 2022 available but I've been using 2020 more in my area because of the drought looking terrible in 2022. My email address is in my profile or you can go to crosstimbersw.com if you're interested.

Do you know how to mark it up on google earth, if you have KMZs i can make a PDF pretty easily in CAD or GIS, just find somewhere local with a plotter to print it out for you

Try id.land find your property and then select filters. Print from there.

Check with your appraisal district to see if they have pictometry. If so, ask when their last flight was. They typically fly every third year (January flights).

This is all you need. Works best building maps on a desktop over mobile app

Google Earth is hard to beat.

For something that is going to be printed to hard copy at a scale that negates Google Earth's typically good aerial image resolution and temporal nature, no, it's easy to beat Google Earth.

If you can use a soft copy, GE can be hard to beat.

Install Google earth pro. It's free now. Can plot all of the lines on the maps and do colors on them and little waymarks. They have a print tool that lists layers and such so is super easy to print after. Hard to get a large highres for poster sized. But good enough for 11x17 type prints. It's really easy to learn and use.

If you want to go down a rabithole of learning but want a lot more features you can get the high quality map layers from TNRIS (free service from the state don't pay on Le of the sites that sends you the same data) and then use GIS software to really start making maps. AR Pro is 100 bucks a year for a ton of features for personal use. Or QGIS is open source and free but isn't as feature rich.

Depending on location, NearMap may have pretty fresh aerial imagery that can be imported to another software with a geolocation. We use it with Civil3D all the time. They fly Houston area almost every month or two.
