We're redoing our master bathroom. They just finished grouting all of the tile on Thursday and then painted the walls on Saturday, and then I walked in this morning and there were bugs all over the floor, 90% of which were dead.

Anyone know what these are? The biggest one was maybe half an inch in length.

Eastern Subterranean Termite Swarmer.

Have someone check it out. Looks like you had a termite swarm. Maybe in the bath trap under the tub.

Also how do I get rid of them/prevent them from coming back? I didn't see any termite tunnels on the outer foundation.

If termites are present in the bathroom there is a chance they have come in around a plumbing penetration. Bath traps are usually a good place to look if accessible. Check around the base of the toilet also.

Check all walls from floor to ceiling to see if any termite mud is emerging from the sheet rock.

The new bathtub and toilet have not yet been installed, so there is currently just the drain and tub filler valve sticking up with nothing attached. They did have to move the plumbing for it, so it was newly poured cement.

There were some around the toilet room (which had the door closed and is dark), but there were a lot more in the much better lit main bathroom area, which is where the tub will be.

Is this something only remedied by bait stations? I don't see any mud tubes or signs of damage. They haven't installed the new baseboards yet, but could I spray some of this non-repallant foam in the gap between the drywall and the floor (where the new trim will cover up)?

I would treat the soil around any open plumbing penetration with Termidor or Taurus. If you have a pest control company that handles your normal pest control get them to check it out. A professional is the way to make sure where they are entering the house.

I saw the same thing yesterday, but outside my house. Parked my truck in my driveway about to walk in the house, and they (the winged version) were all over a 1x4 that is in the expansion joint of my driveway. I grab a bottle of wasp spray that was in my garage and sprayed them with that. First time I've noticed termites or any sign of termites at my house since it was built in 2015. Already ordered Termidor and going to do the perimeter treatment.

These appeared in thr corner of the ceiling in our master closet, which is right next to the bathroom that this post was about. I'm going to spray Termidor foam on them, but I think it's time I call a professional to check things out.

I looked around the foundation and found no tunnels coming up, and right before this, we had all of the walls around every plumbing fixture opened up, and there were no signs of anything, so I'm still confused as to how they got in.

Piggybacking on this post so I don't have to create a new one.

Anyone know what kind of caterpillar this is?

Any chance you have an outside water faucet in the wall near the area the mud has surfaced?

The other side of the wall where the mud surfaced is the shower we just redid. Took it down to the studs and didn't see any signs of termites about 2 weeks ago before they put the hardie board and tile up. The closes hose bib outside is about 20 feet away.

We have a pest control company coming out tomorrow to inspect. He said it's likely there is a colony underground that was disturbed by the construction (we did move some plumbing and have a slab foundation), and they came up through the new drains. He said he thought it was odd we haven't seen any damage if there was a swarm, but we really have not noticed anything. No mud tubes in the foundation outside, no prior signs inside.

Our neighbors on that side of the house do have termite bait stations on their perimeter, so they've clearly had issues in the past. He said he'd likely trench for treatment vs doing bait stations, but I don't know which is better.

Termidor or Taurus are excellent liquid treatments. Some companies will do a liquid spot treatment in the area of the infestation and use bait stations around the home. Both are good options. Renewals are usually a little less expensive for liquid treatment.
Glad you are having someone check it out.

Got another one to ID. It's eating all my oak leaves on my oak saplings. I think maybe hickory tussock caterpillar? Not sure. Outside Houston, if that helps ID.
