I am looking to get a new golf cart for a vacation house in the hill country

This would not be a full time residence, so use would be not be a daily user

Any suggestions (gas vs battery), brands , or other things that I need to research before buying one

I would recommend electric. Gas engines sitting around unused is not the best idea. Electric with one of the new lithium batteries is a better option. Golf carts aren't cheap anymore. Maybe if the economy goes downhill, like they keep saying it will, people will start unloading the toys they bought the last five years.

I went with gas for my house in Bandera (if you ever see an Aggie cart running around there with a big burly man driving it, that's me). Like you, I'm not there all the time.

I went with gas (only put non-ethenol in it and never fill it up) for the following reasons

• I have a detached garage with no electricity so I couldn't keep an electric cart on a trickle charger
• Replacement batteries are EXPENSIVE
• Being away for a couple of weeks at a time and seeing the fires with all the electric vehicle, I didn't want to have to worry about that.
• When we are there, we use it almost exclusively to get around. I didn't want to worry about running out of a charge. I keep non-ethenol gas for all my toys so having it isn't a big deal. Filling up with gas is a lot more convenient that waiting on a battery to charge when you have a bunch of people wanting to run down to Arkey's.
• I know how to work on gas vehicles. I have no clue about electric

If by "new" do you mean new to you or just off the assembly line?

I have a gas Club Car Precedent I'm going to list for sale after Easter. Lift kit, new wind screen, off road tires. We use it to run around the neighborhood.

I play 4-5 times a week on a 4 yr old lithium battery powered cart and still at 100% charge rate

It's a lot lighter and will not overcharge nor make a lot of racket driving.

As I read more about them, I think I am leaning towards an electric cart, probably one with lithium batteries.

I dont mind the gas engine, but it won't get used all the time and am sure that wife or other guests at the house will want to mess with refilling with gas

So looking for lithium battery type options.

Open to new or new to me, but most likely will want a 4 or 6 person cart

Any favorite brands? Or not so favorite brands? Is it really all about the battery brand and not so much the cart maker?

I purchased a 6 seat advanced EV cart in 2020. It is factory lifted. They are a good value for what you get. It has been great around the neighborhood and have taken it to Port A and POC. I have lead batteries and took it in this week for a lithium conversion. I have not picked it up yet so can't comment on lithium, but performance and battery life should be substantially better.

I have a friend trying to get rid of his in the canyon lake area. It's an ez go 2018 model with brand new batteries.

Buy mine at the link above. Use the 12 volts for a while, if you want to upgrade to lithium, do it later.

Depends on how many hills you have in the area. If you want something you can buy and be done with it, go gas. If you like to tinker, a Club Car Onward with a new controller and lithium battery upgrade will scoot.

Love our Evolution cart bought in New Braunfels. Electric with lithium. Tops at 25 mph, but gets there quickly and can maintain 19-20 even up steep hills. Wife loved the 4 forward facing seat arrangement. Will not ever use it for golf, but you can. Ours is just transportation around the neighborhood.

This is a very good suggestion, I have had a gas one for nine years or so, when it sits around and is not used for longer periods it just ends up needing a tune up, electric may be a better option if it's sitting. I just sent mine off to get fixed last few months .. cost too much to get fixed

I bought an Axis for $9k. 500 cc 2WD - 4WD with a dump bed and a winch.

I'll probably regret buying Chinese "junk" but it's been great so far.
