Got a Gamo Swarm Magnum 10X GEN3i Inertia Fed .22 Caliber Break Barrel air Rifle

What's a good value/budget scope to replace the one it came with?

Someone recommended Hammers 3-9x40AO .177 .22 Magnum Spring Air Gun Rifle Scope with Mount…

I would recommend a scope from Hawke. It is a UK company. They know airguns quite well in that country, and know how a scope must be designed in order to withstand the forwards recoil of a break-barrel rifle. I have several inexpensive Hawkes on some powerful European break-barrels, and they have done fine for many years. Most of their scopes will parallax down to airgun hunting yardage. They come in many different price levels. Some models can be had in both illuminated reticles and non. Especially consider their 2-7x32 AO or their 4x32 AO.

Most scopes are not designed to withstand the recoil of a break-barrel air rifle. If you want an American brand, Leupold is the only one that has most of their lineup able to withstand the recoil. The old Japanese-made Bushnell 4200 series will too, but you would waste a lot of time trying to find one, and most of those are very high-power scopes for target use. But their 6-24x and 8-32x scopes are optically and structurally just great.

If your rifle does not have a picatinny rail, then you have to make sure you know the dovetail size when you order rings.

Don't snap your fingertips off........

A lot of these (Gamo, etc.) come with scopes. Are those no bueno?

It's been a few years since we have had a good all purpose air rifle recommendation.

What would be a good break barrel in the $300 range? Caliber? Primary use would be dispatching the occasional suburban varmit. Squirrel, coon, possum, etc.

I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't pay any attention to the Chinese and Korean break barrel rifles that you will find in that price range. And yes, I do know that might make me sound like an airgun snob. It is what it is. The cheapest I would go would be the RWS 34, but IIRC they might run closer to $400. These are made in Germany. Shop around and see what you can get one for.

As for caliber - since you want to hunt with your rifle, I would definitely suggest either .22 or .25.

I'm not sure that I would say they are no bueno, but they are not known for their longevity.

I bought one of the $100ish Gamos from wallyworld a few years back. Came with a scope.

Definitely not the most accurate, but gets the job done. Mostly for shooting sparrows out of my martin areas.

Strong enough It has killed skunks and squirrels. .177cal

Truglo TG8539TL on my Benjamin Marauder. Love the lighted reticle. A little north of $150.
