I sometimes give a plug on these things when I have time, and I'm going to try to be more proactive about posting them here. I'll also give a plug to join Texas BHA and get involved with Public Land & Wildlife issues in the state of Texas.

For those who weren't aware, there is a Parks & Wildlife Commission Meeting coming up this week. There are several items on the agenda, that many people may not care about, but when I have the time I like to highlight them here.
You can comment online through 5:00 on Wednesday the 27th, and in person during the meeting in Austin. Comment on all, comment on some, but get involved.

TPWD: March 27-28, 2024, Commission Meeting Agenda (texas.gov)

Comment Opportunities:
  • Create a tag system for oversized Speckled Trout, Similar to Redfish
  • Changes to migratory bird seasons, including ending snow goose conservation season.
  • Changes to general hunting regs, including changes to Turkey seasons, including some closures, additional doe days in some counties, and some additional youth hunting days.
  • Some relatively minor land transactions

The over 30" trout tag and bonus tag is laughable. It's almost insulting how out of touch TPWD are on that issue.

They will never pay for the ink it takes to put the bonus trout tag regs in The Outdoor Annual from the sale of bonus trout tags.....

Might as well sell my wood chipper got hit by a meteorite tags.....and bonus tags.....

Start proposing a dolphin tag....our ancestors ate em yall.... lol

Additional doe days, or one more doe allowed would be greatly appreciated. Our lease has a horrible ratio of male to females, it cant be healthy. This is only our second year on the place and I am not sure we could ever catch up and manage a healthy population under the current rules.

This was actually discussed during the January commission meeting when discussing adding the tag proposal to the Texas register. It was proposed that the cost of the tags could or should be higher, but one of the commissioners did not want the cost to be a barrier for someone who wanted to fish. This tag is not meant to be a revenue generator, but a tool to limit harvest of large breeder trout.

Personally, in my comments, I suggested that the first tag be free as proposed, but make it something separate that must be requested, rather than being part of the license by default where everyone gets one. I would also support the second tag being significantly more expensive after you use your first one.

They would likely make MORE money if they gave away allllllllll the over 30" trout tags that would possibly be used. Give them all away with digital reporting.....then TPWD would have an easier study of how many are actually being kept to stop this nonsense. They would save money by just giving them away and having the data....instead of spending money on this charade.

100% free for allllllll the over 30" trout tags you want to digitally report. Would save all the money spent on this bs...with eye opening results for this clown show.

Then report that digital reporting back to us annually. Prove me wrong.

Same here. Our doe season ends Thanksgiving weekend, a holdover from 40 years ago that has never really been updated.

Ending the conservation season on snow geese has no basis in anything other than "it's been a round a while, let's cancel it".

All this tag and the 3 fish bag and 15-20 slot limit will do is stockpile 20+ inch fish to be killed in the next inevitable freeze.

Not to get in the way of a good rant, but I think they are no longer printing the Outdoor Annual. Digital only beginning with 2020-2021 season.

Maybe they changed their minds or maybe it was just a Covid thing, but here was the announcement:
