In the newest version of the app the remote start feature is disabled. This is intentional. You have to start the grill now by actually using the controls on the grill. RecTec states that they were forced by 'the powers that be' and the Trager will be doing the same thing.

This kinda pisses me off. I loved turning the grill on while driving home so it is pretty close to ready when I get there and was one of the determining factors for choosing RecTec. I don't know if just not updating the app will work, but I know updating will end your remote start.

It does suck, but i guess i get it.

Rumor I heard is that a guy started his grill remotely and something fell on it and set his house on fire. Just a rumor I heard .. but seems reasonable

could see a scenario where a guy removes the grill cover and throws it on the patio, wife has people over during the day and put the grill cover back on to tidy up. Guy remotes starts and house burns down.

I guess I don't understand, but are these apps a means of starting a smoker or grill remotely without anyone being present? If so, that seems incredibly dangerous and the fact it was ever allowed is a bit alarming. Seems like a fantastic way to have a good business sued into bankruptcy. I know people here are responsible but you have to understand this is not for you, this is for the lowest common denominator. Personally, I don't like being away from my smoker from starting, to tending all day, to finish, but that's just me. If I'm not within 50 feet of it all day long, I might as well just toss it in the oven.

I have grown tired of everything being lowered to the lowest common denominator. I like to believe I am not a moron, so why can't I have nice things? Thankfully the government is here to nanny me so I don't hurt myself. And if it isn't the government it is insurance. And if it isn't insurance, it is lawyers.

Just make sure you stay within 50 feet of that oven too, as they are a known starter of house fires.

Found this out the other day at 2AM when I tried to start it from bed so it'd be ready when I went outside to put the meat on. Was a nice feature for sure but it makes sense why it wouldn't be allowed.

Here I was thinking I was doing something wrong yesterday. I was home so I just went out and hit the button. Still annoying because I've certainly used it remotely in the past.

That's my wife's problem. The oven is in the kitchen.

The worst of all are the lawyers in the government. I hate my new Escalade because it has like 50 babysitting safety features that take away my right to drive how I want to drive and I already want to sell the damn thing after 6 months
