Anyone do meat rabbits to supplement protein? Any advice before hopping in? Pun intended!

Saw some content about it and may be something we are interested in trying. We have chickens and goats but utilize neither for meat so far.

We tried it. Major PITA. Hope you don't like going on vacations or would have someone who can take care of them. They seemed super time intensive for us.

We did them in hanging cages. The ONLY way I'd ever even think about it again would be in a ground colony

my dad did it when i was a wee lad. I just remember him butchering them with a hammer on a stump. he used to like to cut out the still-beating heart and throw it at me. we lived in the city at the time and between their cages and butchered entrails, probly were the smelliest lot in the neighborhood.

My kids raise them for the county stockshow. We buy them young every year, so I don't know much about the breeding process. I do know that when it's really hot, they don't breed well.

They're really easy to raise, just give them food and water. I butcher them after the show and we eat them several different ways. Our favorite recipe is rabbit and dumplings.

That's about all I can add.
