What's y'all's opinions on boots slipping when they're new.

I just dropped some coin on the first nice pair of boots I've ever owned (Luccheses) and they're slipping in the heel after wearing them around yesterday evening. I'm all up in my head thinking it's gunna get worse.

My two pairs of Ariats I've had for years fit snug but they're also a size smaller than I usually wear in boots. These are 13's which is what I am and I've got plenty of room for my foot but I feel like they're gunna slip bad when they're broke in. They're snug around my mid foot but even that has loosened up some but still feels good. They feel like they fit my foot so perfect that it's just floating in there if that makes sense.

What say you?

Before putting on any new boot, I push together heel and toe to get flex started and even twist the heel and toe in opposing directions. Also push in on top of heel to get that started bending and forming to foot and step as well.
Seems all my new boots do the slip thing for a bit, but either doing as I described helps reduce slippage or just convinces me that it does so I feel better.

Can always try adding a thin insole

Most all new boots I've bought have slippage in the heels till they are broken in some. Kinda makes me crazy, which is why I mostly stay with lace-up ropers now.

Of course, lace-up Justins aren't Lucchese either.

Wear a thicker sock?

Boots are made slip a little bit at the heal

Yea I went back and nothing fit better than what I already had. I've just been wearing the wrong size in boots for years and I'm used to them being overly tight. Finally sized up in work boots a few years back but I dumped slip on's for work probably 15 years ago and went with nothing but lace ups causes of the better ankle support.

I'm sure they'll grab my heal better when they're broke in or I'll try a different insole or sock.

Very comfy boots though.

Sounds like they're probably a little too big. And they're going to stretch as they break in. If it's not too bad, I'd just go with a thicker sock. Boots have a way of getting worked out one way or another!

My dad a handmade boots salesman says, "new boots slip in the heals."

If a boot fits you correctly it should not slip at the heel.
Cookie cutter boots sometimes don't fit certain folks feet no matter. Also you can try two or three identical sized and styled boots by the same manufacturer and they each will fit somewhat different.
I always try on two or three of the same boot to see which pair fits the best.
Try wearing thicker socks or get a half insole.

My thoughts are I like em big. I wore 12 and 13s for years before i stumbled into a nice looking pair of 14s. Now I like the extra room and only buy 14s.

Get em wet (really wet) & walk them dry.

I do this with most new work boots & they fit like a glove.

*May not be a good plan with fancy exotics, but works great on everyday boots (I've done it for 30 years).
