This popped up in a Facebook group. Probably some members here. I just wanted to ask the question because I have a bet with myself as to whether or not anybody on the OB has tried it.

Doesnt look like there's any fat on it.

Never tried peacock but have cooked a big ol Muscovy duck. If you like duck, it's excellent.

I'd go with the Franklin turkey method on that.

Not the way I expected this thread to go based on the title.

My wife's aunt has a very nice house not far from a peacock farm / place / whatever. It's pretty common they escape and show up in her back yard. Mean SOBs that make a God awful amount of racket.

So I get where the guy is coming from. I'd never buy one, but I can understand the hate it takes to make a couple disappear. Especially after one makes a run at one of your kids.

That being said, those things look way to lean to smoke. Probably better wrapping in bacon and roasting covered in the oven if you really feal it's necessary to try and eat one.

Neighbor had a peacock. Agree with the above post on racket. Very annoying and very often.

Had wonderful friends who were missionaries in Northern Pakistan. They shot a cooked wild peacocks for their thanksgiving turkeys and loved them.

Serious answer is I'd either treat it like a duck or spatchcock it.

You have to brine and inject the heck out of it if you are going to smoke it.
I thought everyone only fried their peacock....

This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone eating those damn things.

adult peafowl are very expensive so it would be an expensive "just to see" type of experiment. but i have googled it myself in the past.

Beat me to it. Smoking a bird that at the cheapest goes for over $100 bucks fully grown seems pretty lavish. Maybe this is one of the exotic gastro things like people wanting to dine on endangered species.

I can assure you, this was just a redneck or hillbilly.

There is a neighborhood in Midland that I drive through every day taking my kid to school that has 40-50 peafowl roaming through it. I thought about this just this morning.

I was walking my middle son up to the the ranch house so he could go make thunder in the pooter. One of my SIL's mean Peacocks flew off the roof right at us, the bird caught Tom right under his left eye. I took him in the house to doctor his eye, when we came out the bird was waiting for us and on about the 3rd try I broke his leg with a rock. I didn't say anything to anyone about the broken leg. The next day I went out there to finish the deed but he was never seen again. Possibly a predator got him that night.

I killed a peacock with a slingshot about 10 years ago. Every day it and several others wandered in from the neighbor's white trash compound to roost and crap all over our work trucks.

I got the slingshot to scare them away & got pretty good with it. I brained one with a rock from 30 yards & killed it dead. Couldn't believe it. I simply disposed of it in our dumpster so the WT wouldn't find out & retaliate somehow. I know I let y'all down.... should have at least breasted it out and eaten a little of it.

Several years ago there was a local landowner here that had a peacock running wild with a flock of turkeys on his place. It just appeared one day and stayed with the turkeys full time.

As far as cooking, I would think you'd want to treat it like a wild turkey. Fry, smoke, or grill the breast, then braise the legs and thighs. That's what I usually do anyway.

Peacocks are noisy. I've never owned them but we have 25 guineas. They chirp and squeak and call all day long…..and all night long. I'd eat one of them before a peacock.
