Got me a Marlin squirrel gun again

When I was a kid my uncle gave me a Marlin Model 60 "squirrel gun," but when I was stationed at Fort Meade the MPs made it so difficult to own firearms when living on post that I ended up selling it off. I always missed it because it was a fun little rifle to shoot.

Today my FIL decided it was time to offload some firearms and gave me a rifle. It turned out to me the same model I sold when I was at Fort Meade. It's not particularly valuable, and it needs a serious cleaning, but it's nice to have one again.

Do NOT take it apart!!! Seriously, if it needs cleaning on the inside, just take it out of the stock, spray it out really good with "Gun Scrubber" and let the crud run out, then oil it up.

Just a warning, in case you didn't know. Ruger 10/22's are made to disassemble. Marlin 60's and Remington Nylon 66's are NOT!

Marlin started building the Model 60 in 1960. It was based upon the Model 99 design. The model 60 was produced all the way until 2020. (Remington built them in the later years).
I had one when I was 10. My dad bought it for me on my 10th BD. I gave it to my nephew 30 years later. He still has it.
Winchester built the model 190/290 to compete with it. Remington built the Model 66 to also compete with it.
Cool story you have. They were reliable little .22's.

I just inherited one of these. I put a cheap 3x9 scope on it. Tack driver!

Nylon 66's aren't that complicated to disassemble...

My first .22 and my favorite. I've killed more critters with that gun than all my others combined.

Neither is a Swiss watch. It's getting it RE-assembled, that's the problem…. (DON'T DO IT!! (Unless something is broken))

" It Is Written...

Hear me well, Oh Shooter, for I have given thee this rifle.

Its number is 66 and it is made not of any tree in Ilion. It shall not fail thee. It needs not thy mods or care save the wipe of thy rag anointed with fine oil . Cared for thus, It shall outlive thee and thy children's children until the end of time, for it is good.

Verily, strip not thy Nylon 66, for its reassembly passeth human understanding. Neither shall ye apply oil to its heart lest it attract smutz and maketh thy problems multiply. Have I not given thee Gunscrubber to smite fouling and Zytel that slides smoothly forever? Be humble and accept this rifle as I did make it, for it is perfect and needeth not thy help.

AMEN"

I recently bought a Marlin 60 for the same reason. My first rifle was a Glenfield 60 with the "acorn" stock and I sold it for the same reason in the 1990s when I was transferred to NY. I found a JM stamped Marlin 60 with a Simmons scope for $200. Best of all, it went unnoticed by my wife when it was added to the gun rack.

I can remember me, my mom, and my brother heading to K-mart to get one for my brother's birthday. Think it was $64. I bet we hauled that thing through 500 miles of creek bottom through junior high and highschool. Many a brick of Winchester wildcats from the local hardware store were loaded down that tube. And many a critter saw their last day to it.

Taking the trigger assembly and bolt out is pretty simple on these things.

Now, if you are taking the trigger assembly apart down to individual components, its more complicated for sure. But not particularly difficult.
Well, okay then

I've had a Model 60 for a few years. Yep; cheap scope, the gun hits what I aim at. Fun!

I agree. It's not that difficult. This video is a pretty good guide.
