When we bought our house in September of 2020 we looked into adding a covered back porch but with everyone gathering outside and the cost of lumber we tapped the breaks.

Last fall we decided to go forward and the contractor began construction in late January. I'm hopeful they can finish in the next few weeks. Coming up they'll put in a beaded pine ceiling, finish the column wraps and paint/stain the entire house and new porch.

The electricians were here this morning to wire for ceiling fans, infrared heaters, can lights, bluetooth speakers and my Yoder. I'm looking forward to sitting out there, playing my concertina and annoying my neighbors.

Here's a few pics of the progress - including the previously whined about helical piers.

Ha! You must have missed my post last week birching about the cost. I required 6 at a depth of 14' each for $4,590.00.

Here's the link to my post from last week. https://texags.com/forums/34/topics/3444456/replies/66990325#66990325

Very nice. Do not hear much about Concertinas down here. They are very popular in Minnesota and Ohio.

When I retired I started doing some genealogy research on my mom's side of the family (McBrien). I had figured they came over during the famine but as I continued to work back in the US, they were here long before the famine in the early 1700s. Long and short of it is they seemed to be Scots Irish that came here from Northern Ireland.

In the meantime I got interested in Irish traditional music and started playing the whistle. About 8 months ago I got an Anglo concertina and started learning to play it. I found an amazing teacher from Dingle who I take live online lessons from when she's not touring. I really enjoy it and have found it to be easier than the whistle. Her name is Caroline Keane. Look her up on Apple Music or Spotify.

My teacher and her husband who's playing the pipes. Her concertina costs somewhere in the range od $12-15k I believe.

The guys who installed them said they'd gone as far as 142' before.
