Seems to be an annual thing, but with every freeze that lasts more than 24 hours, I seem to bust a pipe out at the septic sprinkler head. Is there anything I can do to prevent it?

That's what I did with mine, hate the way contractors leave them 2' out of the ground.

Easier to mow as well.

You can poop all you want. Just don't flush.

I always thought if it's yellow, let it mellow & if brown flush it down...was an interesting theory
Was just hoping for some pics to see what OP was actually dealing with...there are rules round here

Heads are a couple inches above ground, but it isn't typically the heads that have issues. I've had a riser split one year, and a 90 degree elbow another year.

I've never heard of issues with the lines freezing as they aren't under pressure all the time. If you're worried about it just open up your control box & turn the sprinklers off(I believe there is a switch or you can adjust the timer to never be on) until danger of freeze is over.

You can install one of these:

https://cheapsprinklers.com/products/champion-dv-050-brass-1-2-drain-valves?variant=21948655370340&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5Oa72PjkgwMVJSfUAR2sCw09EAQYCSABEgL1CvD_BwE

Build a "basin" where your riser comes out of the ground that is filled with gravel/rock. This valve goes in that basin a foot or two below your sprinkler head (the rock gives it a place to drain into). When the system is on, this valve closes, and water sprays out of your sprinkler head. When the system shuts off, the pressure drops, and this valve opens, allowing any water above it to DRAIN, so that there's nothing in your riser or sprinkler head to freeze.

Have the line running from your system terminate at a T-connector in what will be that rock-filled "basin", pointing side/side. Put this valve on the side of the T, and put your riser/sprinkler head on the other side with a 90 degree..
