Problem with my Beretta Silver Pigeon

Back in November it got its first use busting (missing) clays and worked flawlessly. I shot 1 box. The action was a little stiff, but that is to be expected on a new gun.

This past weekend I took it out again and it developed a problem after about 10-20 rounds. The break action works fine if the gun hasnt been fired, but after firing it, the break action is very stiff. Not just new gun stiff, it takes a consderable force to open it up. But once opened, it open/closes very easy (as it should), and gets stiff again after pulling the trigger.

Any idea what might be the problem? Something wrong with the ejecters?

Are you shooting reloads or very old ammo?

Sounds like a pressure/expansion issue to me.

No, I am shooting recently purchased Federal shells.

You should be good on that front then. I guess you could try some other shells just to see but I would be surprised if there were issues with new production commercial ammo.

Sounds like your cocking springs and rods. Pull the fore end off, pull barrels off the action and lube up all those little bits and pieces at the hinge point. Firing pins recock upon opening after being fired. The rods that cock those springs are driven by pieces in the fore end at the hinge point.

If it's as new as it sounds, it may still be factory new basically. You have to HEAVILY lube from the factory.

Thanks.

Is it safe to dry fire to test it out?

I never suggest dry firing without snap caps. At a bare minimum use EMPTY shells so the pins have some kind of resistance to land on.

Local gun shop thought it was more than just lube so they sent it in for warranty repair.

Looks like OP will be taken care of by warranty, so this is for future reference for anyone else dealing with Beretta issues.

If you're near San Antonio, Cole Fine Guns is an authorized Beretta Warranty Service Center and can fix up your shotties usually much faster than the factory.
