I've hunted a lot of things, but never duck. Finally got a chance to go with friends these past two days. Setting and retrieving decoys was harder than I thought it would be. Enjoyed it thoroughly. First day with two trained dogs, today was without dogs. Harder for sure.

Is that out in Sealy at the Double BB club? Looks like it.

Congrats on the hunt.

What is the point of this? Why set your feet in a bucket of water well above the water line?

Did it for years but not anymore. But since you're new, don't rest your feet in cold water. Bail that stuff out. If there is a leak, get somebody to fix it.

Seems like water is low and they just made do with what they had for a blind.

Notice for far water is away from their shooting spot in the first picture. Making it harder but not impossible.

Welcome. Most people either love it or hate it. Or both.

Yes it is, Beckendorff's place. Big cattle operation with a duck hunting outfit. Just south of Sealy.

I took a picture because I thought it was dumb. There are 10 blinds on the property spread out over a big area (what seemed like a couple thousand acres based on the Polaris drives).
Was told most are bench rest but we got put in a bucket blind these two days.
I asked why there aren't holes in the bottom to let the water drain out naturally especially because the seats were above the water line…the guys I was with requested that in the past but the owner hasn't done anything about it.

Buddy said last year was 2600 a gun and this year was 2700 a gun. Hunting is on weds and sat and sun. Max is 60 guns because they have 10 blinds with 6 seats.

Yeah I definitely would have bailed it out but none of us had anything to bail it out with and I didn't want to freeze my hands doing it manually. And the water was pretty nasty so I wasn't too interested in touching it bare handed either because of some scrapes on my hands.

Note to set: add drill and bits to hunting gear list.

Well when I was younger I stood in thigh deep water all morning to hunt ducks in the marsh so I understand you can survive with legs in the water.

Smart thinking. A guide friend of mine out of Crowley, La smashed a fingernail when client slammed door on his hand. Cleaned up blind after hunt, ended up with infection and flesh eating disease , and had arm taken off at elbow. Nasty water in bottom of duck blind.

I dropped a pair of earplugs in that water, and I instantly thought, not picking them up, definitely not putting them in my ears. Glad I had backups.

Yeah, my neoprene was plenty thick so I wasn't cold at all.

I see an expended drill bit afloat in the bucket.

Teal are very good eating. Wrap in bacon and cook on the grill. It like a filet mignion.

Pan fried some tonight after marinating for 4 hours in olive oil, salt, pepper & Tony C's. Cooked about 2-1/2 minutes a side in a cast iron on medium heat & it was amazing.

My better half is gonna make the roux while I run to Total wine and more to pick up my Blanton's Gold Reserve that came in! Been on their rare bourbon waiting list for a couple years now and it's starting to pay off

Keep em coming! I can smell that goodness. You're going to force me to make gumbo this weekend…again

I made a large pot with my specks and ducks from stuttgart. Threw in sausage as well. How do you like that Beaumont brand?
