I bought a Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DC machine from an online auction a few weeks back. Picked it up at a welding shop in Stonewall and brought home. Looks similar to this one below. When I got it home I found the amperage adjustment was stuck and the amp indicator was broken. I decided to start disassembling and am going to refurb it. After taking all the panels off and vacuuming out 40 years of dust and steel filings, I got the amperage adjuster loosened.
There is a spring tensioner on the front that I was able to loosen and hit with some penetrating oil, it freed up. I think there is a tensioner on the back but can't see it and don't want to take it down too far. Anyone have an idea of what the best lubricant would be to lube that and the gears that won't collect dust/filings? I found online that rust oleum gloss Red Sunrise matches Lincoln red, 2 cans on the way from Amazon. I removed the metal faceplates and will try to rehab them as well. Anyone ever do this before? Any specific things I should change out while the cover is off? I need to try to find the little plastic indicator that moves back and forth to show amp settings. Maybe can find on EBay. Any advice is appreciated.
