Troubleshoot - New Blackstone Seasoning

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Just got a Blackstone 36" and I'm trying to get it seasoned before I cook on it. I have read the instructions and watched a few YouTube videos about how to properly season it. The problem I am having is that it does not seem to be heating up hot enough to get it seasoned. All of the videos say to put a thin coat of oil on and then wait for it to stop smoking before you put the next coat on. Obviously, it should also be starting to turn black. Mine is not smoking at all, nor is it changing color. The burners are all lit and on high, and the griddle feels hot, but the oil just melted in and the griddle top is still basically silver with a slightly yellow hue. Any tips are appreciated.

Thanks,

May be your propane tank valve has locked partially.
Close the valve with the burners in the off position.
Open the tank valve very slowly and try again.
If that doesn't do it, try another tank.
They are notorious for this with the internal protection features

This can darn sure happen if everything isn't connected in order

Yeah, I'm going to go with a problem in your line or with your propane bottle. No reason a new 36" shouldn't get screaming hot. Can you take a pic of the flames when it is on high?

I would double check that the bottle is truly on and full. Try a different bottle, or exchange yours if needed.

I have several propane bottles that close down every time I fire up the grill. I open my propane valve, then all of the burners and if it doesn't light well, I just close the propane valve for a few seconds. You'll feel or hear the regulator click as it resets.

Otherwise, how long are you waiting? Is it windy? A black stone, will not get screaming hot if it's windy. Otherwise, maybe you just aren't waiting long enough? When I seasoned mine, it was at least an hour long process if not longer.

Thanks all. Turned it off, waited a bit, disconnected and reconnected the tank, turned it back on, and it worked much better. It was also pretty windy the first time I tried (didn't know that would be an issue). It is now seasoned and I made bacon and sausage this morning for the family.

Merry Christmas!
