Should I pull the trigger on a 7PRC from a local company "Horizon"?

Been eyeballing a 7PRC for some time now. Really like what I've read about the new cartridge. Most will be plinking at the long range, here in TX and WY but also some hunting here and there.

I was originally set on a Christensen Arms because I have one of their 6.5CMs (Mesa) that shoots great.

Seekins seems to have a great reputation.

But the range officer (Charles) over at CCC Shooting Complex recommended Horizon Firearms right here in BCS. His wife does the paint jobs there. After checking around, seems Horizon really builds great stuff. Their Venatic Carbon appeals to me.

Y'all OBers have any experience with them?

Send me a rifle, and I'll test it out for you to let you know if it's any good.

In all seriousness- I've been fawning over 7PRC's for a while. I would grab one if I could .

Here's an old thread that touches on Horizon. https://texags.com/forums/34/topics/3257063

The owner developed the 22 creedmoor. I have a buddy that owns one of their 22 creedmoors and he is getting a 7mm PRC built by them right now.

I've heard they make an awesome product, and it's a huge plus to have them local.

I have shot several of horizons different models of rifles and highly highly recommend them, I also have a 7prc and highly recommend that cartridge!

Horizon was founded by Derrick Ratliff, an Aggie and former Ag Systems Mgmt major. By all accounts he's a high quality guy and builds some high quality rifles.

They are very legit. Got a custom 22 creed on order now.

I had them re barrel a rifle for me a couple years back. Most accurate gun I have. Been wanting to get one of their full builds. Great product and Derrick is a really nice guy.

Derrick used to post on here and I almost had him build a custom rifle for me. I'd have zero hesitation buying anything he has built

Would love to see Horizon posting here again.

Fantastic rifles.

And an early adopter of the 22CM I believe.

I don't know anything about Horizon, but I've had several Stiller actions, which I always liked. Looks like a pretty sweet rig!

if Cledus endorses it, you are usually good to go.

I called today and a kind Aggie from the class of '18 took my order. Getting a firearm from a local business ran by Aggies with a great reputation on the OB. What a great way to close the year!

What's the recoil situation on this cartridge on a lightweight rifle?

Very similar to a 7mm Rem mag given bullet weights are the same.

I am concerned that I might be going too light given that I don't plan on trekking with it up in the mountains as much as pulling it out of the truck for long range plinking.

If the lightweight ends up becoming a pain on recoil, I might end up adding weight in the stock but I'm hoping it will be okay for now (I think it's around 25ftlbs of recoil or about 17ftlbs with a suppressor).

I have only shot mine suppressed, I wouldn't call it a light rifle but completely rigged its right at 10 pounds including can. Felt recoil, well I never even notice it and have no problem staying on target while shooting steel at CCC.
